What's a Sci-Fi original, you ask? Well, the Sci-Fi channel (among others, apparently), often makes movies that are intentionally "B-Movies" (read: very, very cheap and spastic). Not good for those looking for depth, but good for a laugh.

Personally, I prefer the good old 50s & 60s B-movies any day. The ones cited in the opening song of "Rocky Horror" especially. I love "The Day the Earth Stood Still", "When Worlds Collide", "Tarantula", etc. I once made it a mission to get all those old movies on VHS when they came on TV. I think I have them all except for maybe two...the old "Flash Gordon" and "Day of the Triffids". I don't understand why they never show that one anymore...*le sigh*...But I did recently nab "Dr. X" on TCM over Halloween...so the search continues. Some of those literally had a message to deliver to mankind...especially "The Day the Earth Stood Still"...I love it. I don't care how many glitches and inconsistencies ther may be with Gort's costume...that movie ROCKS. I saw an interview with Patricia Neal where she said she had to work really hard to keep from laughing when she read it and was working on it...but it's a classic. Besides, she is forever immortalized with "Gort! Klaatu barada nikto!"...which Ash would later have fun with in "Army of Darkness"...*hehehe* The other week when I was at Sam's Club and saw the collector's edition DVD release of "Forbidden Planet" which comes with a miniature of "Robby the Robot" and some lobby cards or somit. :DOooooooh...I know what I want for Christmas.

The orginal series Battlestar Galactica is the best sci-fi show ever made. It has great writing, music, acting and special effects. They probably spend all of the money on it, so there is none left for the movies.
