The day is finally here! Just thought I'd report that we're off to the Warner in about 5 minutes to see Lovehammers! Not too much talk here about the DC show. Sure hope we see lots of fellow Hammerheads. I have my wristband and we'll be making lots of noise (from the balcony, but whatever, it will be happy noise). Will send a report ASAP!

Okay! We're back and I need to write this now while it's all fresh and it's completely occupying my mind.
I. Pre-LH - arrived at 7:15. The Warner is a great venue for concerts, a little formal with attendants wearing uniforms, ties, and big smiles, but not too much. We had a drink and then they started letting people in to their seats. The bartender announced that drinks were allowed in the theatre, so we went on in to see where our seats were - mid-balcony, 3 rows behind an area at the edge of the balcony called the "Warner Grand Suites" with tables & chairs. But our seats weren't too bad and near the aisle - had a great view. I got my camera in, but we were too far away to get anything good, so that didn't work out so well. I'm sure there will be good ones from others as there were lots of Lovehammers fans there!!! We surveyed the audience; lots of people coming in by 8 so we tried to pick out who the people near us were there to see. The couple in front of us we thought were INXS fans and I asked the 2 women next to me who they were excited about seeing. Marty!! They were Marty fans of the show. I said that was perfect as now we had a line of 4 for cheering solidarity. They were quite impressed that this was our 5th time seeing them (we thought that was great but I know 5 times is a drop in the bucket for Lovehammers fans). After the show they said they were so impressed that we knew all the words to the songs and well, I guess we do. I told them about MC.org, showed them my wristband, told them about their other CDs, and to check out the web site for all they want to know about MC and Lovehammers. (We did the same thing with a couple behind us in the meet-and-greet (yes they had a M&G and it was great!). More about that. So, we spied some others in seats near us and guessed right, they were LH fans.
II. The LH ! - the lights go down on or about 8 pm and the unmistakeable drum beat begins. Lots of cheering and that's before Marty appears, then there is lots more loud cheering. They did the abbreviated Ultrasound intro - love that song - then into Straight as an Arrow which began whipping up the audience. Something about that song does it - or is it just something about every song that does it? Then I think it was Call of Distress, Riddle, Rain on my Brain, Eyes Can't See, Tunnel - and then Marty did not disappoint as he disappeared into the audience not missing a note and the place went wild. We could just see him walking on the backs of seats before he disappeared from sight. Somewhere in there he stood and conducted from a huge speaker on stage (really no place to climb there), he conducted lots tonight! He also did the conducting thing over a security guard's head which was funny. From earlier reviews, I knew people weren't all standing for the LH songs and those who were were asked to sit down, but we noticed some die-hard fans who refused to sit down. There was one woman 2 rows in front of us who stood the whole time - atta girl! - and I think security came over to ask her to sit down but she didn't. There was a huge group that we could see standing by the stage to the right able to dance to everything. Marty seemed pretty pleased by that. We rocked from our seats (up and down while sitting could be annoying to someone behind but it seemed like a good compromise). And we (LH fans) were all on our feet for the end of song applause. The balcony was full of fans and I think Hammerheads must have been well distributed throughout the theatre since it seemed that audience response was really loud. LH seemed very pleased and Marty connected with his balcony fans often. There was 1 woman in a box seat up to the right side of the stage and she was all by herself just dancing like crazy. Marty saw her and looked really happy. So, they next did Ring of Fire after the tease ("think you might know this one") and got people on their feet (well, all except these 4 people in front of us, but my husband said they didn't move an inch for INXS either, so who knows why they were there). Then Marty did his talk about who the LH are, and hello DC and that he "never realized DC was such a crazy town!" He said that this is a small place and we were crazier (or something like that) than the 10,000 audience in Vegas. Thanks Marty! He gave their thanks and appreciation to INXS, and invited us all to the meet-and-greet later. Then Trees which really got people up, and the grand finale - complete with shirtless Marty (yea!) and Jeremy on guitar for a wild and inspired This Town. So, we timed it at about 50 minutes. The guys seemed really happy, or maybe I was just happy enough for everyone. INXS couldn't have hoped for a more pumped up audience. There were lots of kids in the audience which was great to see, even in the M&G line, some of them had things for LH to sign. So, all too soon, it was over and we sat down exhausted. I left to get some water, my husband stayed for a few INXS songs, I watched those songs from the side. JD and the band sounded great but we had business to take care of, with all due respect. Bought another CD, found where the M&G was to be - very organized - saw Dino, then a Marty sighting, but he disappeared to watch INXS.
III. Meet & Greet - sorry to go so long but just from remembering all this, I don't want it to end! Stood in line - we were near the front - talked to a couple behind us who drove up from Richmond, VA to see Marty (said they like INXS but really came to see Marty). She said she'd never felt this way about any other star except Madonna, that Marty just impressed her so much on the show with his intelligence and talent, and more. I showed her my wristband and gave her the URL and told her she could find out everything she could ever wish to know about Marty and the LH on MC.org and that there were so many pictures she'd be busy for months. I showed her my MOMM cd; she didn't know they had other cds so I told her what she could download on itunes, so she is now infected with the LH bug. What's interesting is that her husband is a part-time DJ in Richmond, so that bodes well for some exposure there it would seem. In line, Marty had his shades on, we were hoping he would take them off, but in the end, when I got to Marty and gave him my MOMM insert to sign and shook his hand and told him how awesome they were tonight and he smiled at me, shook my hand with a beautiful thank-you, well, I didn't even think about asking to take off his glasses. I got the "old school" comment too about the MOMM, but I think I'm really more middle-school since I didn't know them in the Demolition, L'Strange, etc. Dino, Bobby, Billy, all huge happy smiles from them, and me to them with lots of thanks. My husband told Dino to check out the 9:30 club here in DC as it's a great venue, sort of the size of Metro I think, but more up close and personal. He said he would. We told Bobby we'd seen them 5 times and he said make it 10! Okay Bobby, we can do and we will. Great, great show and we didn't even have to fly home since we live nearby. But we'll be up for more when their plans are known.
Anyway, sorry to be so long and rambling, but it felt really good to talk about it. Gotta lot of love for those fab four. The end.

We're still feeling the show. There's just so much to say about these guys. Did I fail to mention how awesome they sounded?! Marty's voice was perfect and their musicianship so great. There should be more DC reviews coming in soon as I saw some of the Sisterhood ladies and the Street team reps there too. They also did Hold On (I'm pretty sure), and they did the hoe-down ending to Riddle too. They really looked like they were having fun. I may have missed some other songs and the order, but the bottom line is they were just awesome. Patiently waiting for some headlining shows!

I was one of those people the ushers asked to sit down during the LH set in DC. I told the lady I didn't realize I was watching the symphony... who was she kidding, I was at a ROCK show!!! I sat down for about a minute and then got right back up again... probably pissed off the folks behind me, but oh well. LOVED the show, but my husband and I feel like we really need to see LH in a dirty, sweaty bar to get the real experience. Think we may have to hop a plane to Chicago to do that, will probably be worth it!! Got to meet Marty afterward, such a sweet person. Best of luck to LH, we'll be seeing them again!

I was able to talk my husband into going to the show last minute, when they released more tickets. Bless my mother in law for being able to baby-sit the kids last minute. We had orchestra seats in section L and from what we could tell - everyone down there was standing for the entire show. We unfortunately missed the first 20 minutes but what we saw was terrific. My husband is not an INXS fan but agreed that Marty and the Lovehammers were terrific. I agree with all of the reports that Marty not only is a great musician but also appears to be the nicest guy in the world. He can really interact with a crowd and get them on their feet - and he seems very, very sincere - which is hard to find. The performance was giving me flashbacks to Hammerjacks - which would have been a terrific venue for them to play, in its heyday. I agree that the 930 club would also be a great venue. We would definitely have to get a babysitter if they come there, as I am sure it would be a great show. I also cannot wait until they release their next album! I have to admit I was very upset and angry when INXS did not select Marty to be their lead singer but over time have come to realize that was a blessing in disguise. Marty and the Lovehammers deserve to be a band in their own right - they are exceptional. I am glad they have been given the opportunity to do so....
