Hi all, I know I don't post much here but I LURK! I am reposting this with some edits form my post on the LH board.
Posted 2-20
I’ve been sick with acute tonsillitis the past 4 days! At least it held off until after I got to see the boys! Well, this is my first time writing a show report so bare with me as I try to remember things in some semblance of order.
My guy Dan and I arrived early to make sure we didn’t get lost or caught up in traffic. There was no way I was taking a chance on missing the show! My guy is a sweetheart he didn’t mind being 4 hours early! We walked around to find the venue, no parking around the place. We had to use the parking garage 3 blocks away. Found the venue, got my tickets at will call and then went to Subway for a bite to eat.
The weather cooperated; it was 50 degrees with no wind. We hung around outside talking with Les, one of the venue managers for well over an hour, really great guy with loads of info on other bands and crazy band requests and stuff! He gave us the low down on the band warm up and sound checks and how awesome the digital soundboard for INXS is. The local radio station showed up and was broadcasting from the front of the venue. I spoke to the DJ’s from the station and asked them if they were playing ‘Trees’ yet and they said they would pass the info onto their manager who makes all the decisions on what they can play. Les brought us some ear plugs LOL! He said with us being in front we will need them! Actually we didn’t need them at all, the sound was phenomenal!
I was first in line being so early, Les made the wait very enjoyable. There was a nice line growing outside it went all the way to the end of the block and possibly around it, which actually shocked Les. Les said he never saw so many wait in line to see an opening act, that people usually dribble in until 10 minutes before the main act, then things get crazy. Nice crowd for the opening band! YAY!
Told him about the Lovehammers and gave him the run down on the band and websites. While waiting they posted signs that no audio/video or flash photography was allowed which bummed me right out! Les told me not to worry about it, turn off my flash and be discrete and I should be ok. I told Les, ok when I get caught I’ll tell them “But Les said it was OK!” LOL Nice guy, can’t thank him enough for all the inside info.
Talked to a JD fan and his wife and said he saw INXS on TV that morning and he hoped JD has his voice back for tonight? I didn’t see the show, but Les said the digital soundboard would make sure he sounds great. It corrects tone and pitch, it’s not used so much for lip-synching, it just helps correct tone and pitch mistakes when they are happening in real time. Most bands have this type of tone-pitch correction so I was told.
The doors were supposed to open at 6:30 but it ended up being after 7 until they let us in. I headed straight for the merch area to buy a T-shirt. I got a nice black Lovehammer shirt with the concert dates listed on back. I brought my MOMM CD and my MCLH CD to be signed.
We had a few beers and went to our seats. The venue itself was beautiful and ornate with gold leafing and hand carved wood everywhere you looked. Dan was a little hesitant to be sitting in second row front stage! He was never to a rock concert before the poor baby! LOL! I looked for Tisha and Holly, I knew where they would be because I mailed Tish the tickets the week before. I headed over and spoke to them for a few minutes, Holly didn’t make it but Cimee was there! It was so nice to meet you both and hang with you guys! Glad you both made it and used up my spare tickets! Tish and Cindy you guys are great! Heard your call in to WMMR Cindy!
Went back to my seat and sent Dan for another beer LOL! Forget that, you couldn’t even move in the lobby by this time.
The concert started with a bang! Ultrasound! Ok now words fail me..
Marty is riveting.. He pulls everyone in with his magnetism and charisma. There are no words to describe the man accurately. They sounded phenomenal! The set list was the same like for all the pervious shows. Marty was all over the stage, sat in front of me at one point and I felt like he was singing only to me with those eyes of his. He ran into the isle and actually straddled a seat while a girl got to hold his hand for about a minute to help him keep his balance! Lucky girl!
I was taking some video and pictures, it took all I could to concentrate on the concert and songs.
Marty got the crowd into ‘Trees’ and everyone was on their feet for it as well as ‘Ring of Fire’. The way the audience responded to Lovehammers was like they were THE main act, which really made my night seeing the band get such a terrific response! It was all over way too fast, Marty was gracious and thanked INXS and the label.. Over much too fast!
OH, Dino threw guitar picks at me and REALLY I couldn’t find them! Bobby’s stix went over my head.. BUMMER! I didn’t see anyone behind me with them.. and looked around for them but didn’t see anything!
I have to say INXS really rocked! JD is a good substitute for Hutchence. He’s sexy and entertaining as well. The mic-stand-lick-thing was a put off and I made a face. (that lasted a little LONG.. like 2 minutes!) JD said to the crowd, “Is this Church or a ROCK CONCERT!” ROFL.. Gee I didn’t think I made THAT much of a face! * shrug * Man, I guess I offended him? I won’t comment anymore about it, he DID do a great job and sounded pretty damn good!
Tim Farriss was right in my face most of the time I stayed up front, he was really into the fans and enjoying himself immensely.. man he looks like he lives for his music and fans! I was really impressed! Not a bad looking dude either! LOL I had to be careful a few times because he could have stepped on my hands when I had them on stage! It was wild.. he kept looking down his guitar strings at me and was rockin away baby!
You know security wouldn’t let anyone get up front for the LH show. Gad I so wanted to rock out in front. Not many LH fans in front either!
One bad thing: I did get a little ticked off though because INXS let the fans rush the stage after the first 3 songs (so much for paying A LOT for my 2nd row center seats!). INXS told security to back off and the fans where allowed up front and personal. Don’t get me wrong it was enjoyable! I wasn’t going to fight with anyone but MAN I had to climb (actually step, the seats where small) over the seat in front of me and stood my ground, the JD ladies are a rowdy but very NICE bunch!
I left about 10 minutes before INXS was finished of course to search out the meet and greet! I should have stayed! My man had guitar picks thrown at him.. Tim Farriss actually threw drumsticks at him and picks and said “here BIG guy” and Dan wasn’t quick enough, he got mobbed by the INXS fan Girls! LOL
Whet out to the lobby and I waitied in line with Tisha and Cimee. It didn’t take the guys long to come out. I met DawnM and asked he to visit the boards.. she was so excited! She forgot to bring a sharpie and I loaned her my extra. Marty ended up asking her if he could have it and she asked me if Marty can have my sharpie! I said, don’t worry about it he can KEEP it! Man if only I was that sharpie!! LOL
I got my MOMM CD sleeve signed by Marty, he said “cool, old school” and I asked Ted if I could get one more signed for my daughter who is away at college.. YES! TED, thanks dude, you rock and the Meet and Greet was awesome!
I went through the line fast, shook hands and stepped aside with my cameras.. I got video and some photos. Talked with Billy, he’s a sweetie and he told me he loves everyone! (after he told me I suck because I was filming them LOL) Funny as hell.. I asked Marty what rathma means.. he said he would tell me later.. when I got my photo with him I didn’t eve have time to ask they were risked away! I shook Dino hands while they went running down the stairs. To YOU DUDE!
I was really lucky to get a photo op, the guys didn’t pose for any photos with anyone. Me being excited with my first concert and all I waited for the chance … Tish presented me with the perfect opportunity to get her and Cimee in a photo with Marty (MC had Tish near the stairwell and was thanking her for street teaming). Was funny because Tish and Cimee didn’t seem to want a photo! And of course I asked for a photo as well… LOL Hey, I saw the chance and jumped on it. The guys must have been exhausted or really rushed because they didn’t hang out long when the signing was over. They were on a three day straight leg of the tour.. hmm or was it 4? I am so happy I got to meet them.. now onto world domination. I can’t wait for the solo tour!
I’m sending in video to Cindy as soon as I hear from her.
* SIGH * I’m on a personal high now for a week!
