I'm so distraught that I don't know whether to cry or scream. Let me vent by sharing my story.
Last year I had one of the roughest years of my life. I had an injury that put me in chronic pain and physical therapy for months. Last summer the pain was at it's worst. By the time every evening came, all I could stand to do was lay on the couch and hope the next day would be better. Well along came RS:INXS. What a fun show! Almost immediately Marty became my favorite. All of a sudden I looked forward to my time on the couch and watching the show. As time went on I became interested in music again
and spent sometime searching for new and old music. I then found the Lovehammers. I enjoyed learning about them and their music. I started buying their CD's and became hooked.
My friends and family were so happy to see me excited or interested in something again. (If you have ever been in chronic pain you'd know it leads to depression.) When Marty came in second and was asked to open up for INXS I had the idea to go. My friend encouraged me to treat myself and my hubby to a concert in NYC. The thought of me being pain-free and able was like a dream. So I bought a ticket to my hometown of NYC and even though it was five hours away and we'd have to find a babysitter for my two kids we decided to go for it. (The hubby and I haven't been away together in 5 years so this is a big deal guys)
Now I just mentioned all that 'cause I want to fill you in on how much this little trip meant to me. Well four months of waiting for the concert have gone by and after 8 months of physical therapy I'm pain free and pretty damn good. So hubby and I decided to make reservations to a fancy hotel in mid-town, we got Grandma to drive in to watch the kiddies, and we were all set to go.
Sunday morning the reports said that the storm should tapper off by the afternoon. Lincoln Center was closed until noon and we had to hit the road from our home in Central New York in case we got any delays. It was smooth sailing all the way through. We hit Manhattan by 4:30. The snow was over, the wind was calm, the streets were full with people, and the work crews were busy plowing out the area around Lincoln center.
So we checked into the hotel. The hotel's lounge was filled with guest in a festive mood and discussing which shows they were going to see. The thought did occur to me to call Lincoln Center but if we made it in fine and the city was bustling, why bother?? HA!!
So we find a great restaurant and the waiter manages to get us served quickly. So we decide to take the subway. Train arrives immediately and we're going to be there almost an hour early. I'm so excited I almost can't contain myself. We walk off the train, find the signs to Avery Fisher Hall right away.
Then we see it..................... the F'n sign that says "Due to Weather Conditions the INXS Show has been postponed" , ,
Then to top it off we decide to go back uptown and grab a show, well it's Sunday night and all the theaters have 7 pm performances.
So the hubby and I made the most of it'cause after all I was with the true love of my life and in the best city in the world. Thank God we packed the bottle of Grand Marnier! But let me tell you the drive home sucked!!!!!!!!!!!!
The sun was shinning and there wasn't a fleck of snow on the road. Usually I just love a sunny winter day but I felt like the sun was just mocking me and oddly enough the song for Pretty Vegas was going through my head except the words were: "It ain't pretty with no show.......
It ain't pretty when INXS leaves you with no place to go........."
Then I get home and find out that LH isn't opening up for INXS' Canadian tour. If that means that the rescheduled show won't have the Lovehammers, I'll really have a cow.
This really really bites........................
