A Letter to Epic for more promotion

Wanted to share with you my letter to Epic Records, faxing today:

Dear Epic Records:

I am writing to you about Marty Casey and the Lovehammers. I want to plead with you to promote this band to the stardom they deserve. It’s in your best interest, and there are millions of consumers out there who just need a little shove, a little more exposure of the band, and they will be die-hard fans like I am.

Rockstar:INXS was a hugely popular reality show last summer. I think almost everyone feared it would be ridiculous, a shadow of American Idol, and not worth watching. Instead, the producers, rockers, INXS, and the fans put together something truly inspiring. The best “house band” around. Rockers who had professional experience and actual talent. A program of clinics and challenges that made sense, and helped the rockers to grow. They were brought into our living rooms three nights a week. That is a LOT of exposure.

This is when I first discovered Marty Casey, as did millions of other rock fans. His energy, his talent, and his good nature made him stand out right from the beginning. Watching him grow as a performer, learn to control his raw energy, it was magical. When he came in second, it was the best thing I could imagine for him. His original song “Trees” had become a #1 download on MSN Music, and people were singing it to themselves all over the place! He got to go back to his hard rock band the Lovehammers, who are kick-ass musicians in their own right.

His fans started huge community fan sites like MartyCasey.org and the Sisterhood of Marty Casey on d***** Forums. Hundreds of posters come every day to post about the band, to get news on developments for the band, and to share in the love they have for these guys. As fans are exposing their families and friends to the new Epic CD, fans are being won every day. They appeal to kids, teens, adults and even a few grandmas! How many bands can say that?

The fans are working hard to promote this band. Street Teamers are traveling to shows, printing flyers, buying merchandise, anything they can think of to help the band. As their record company, you have the power to promote them to the world like no street team can.

Please, make a video for “Trees”, and another one for any of the songs on the CD. All the songs are fantastic! Encourage INXS to continue on that world tour, WITH the Lovehammers, as they offered at the end of Rockstar. Or, if that’s not feasible, do a world tour with Lovehammers headlining. With your promotion, and the dedication of the current fans, it will be a huge success. Fans are traveling all over the country now just to see the band opening for INXS. More will come to see them headlining.

Thanks for listening. I’m passionate about this band, and I’m not alone in that.

Great letter!!!! should we all start to write to epic. Maybe if they get hundreds of letters they will start some promoting. Right now they are doing nothing and I feel really bad for the guys because they deserve all the success. I have been writing to all the t.v shows to get them some exposure.(Regis & Kelly,Ellen,Morning shows,etc) no answers to any of my emails or faxes yet but I keep bugging maybe someone will have them on their show soon.

I would encourage everyone to write in........those execs can be a little stuffy but they DO listen to the fans.......the more money they think they can make.....the more they'll do for the guys........

And they have access to HUGE resources that we don't.........

Great letter Vicki. You said it in a way I fear I never could. I'm very dissapointed with Epic also. Not sure why they signed them if they had no intention of promoting them properly. Boy, are they making a mistake!

I think your letter is excellent ... professional and positive in approach, passionate in its delivery, well-thought-out in the points it makes, and, of course, all so true! I think it'll be taken by Epic in exactly the spirit in which it's intended.

If anyone's thinking of starting a campaign that would generate multiple letters about Epic's LH-promotion efforts, please first check out this thread that Dino started on the LH board:

Dino's first post in that thread is very clear about the band's opinions of and level of satisfaction with their label and their management company. But it's not clear about whether a letter-writing campaign asking for more LH promotion would be viewed as "positive" or "negative," so it may also be a good idea to PM Dino through the LH board and get his direct feedback before starting to submit multiple letters to the label.

Just trying to do my part to share information on this important subject. I'm sure we all agree that our advocacy efforts for the band need to be consistent with the band's mission and strategies.
