Hey all.............. I'm in need of some info if you have it. Most of you I think are either cabbing it or taking limo's (from what I hear) to the Metro on Saturday the 14th......... I will be driving into town early in the day for a little sight seeing....then lunch then some more sight seeing........then dinner.........then the concert. I've got a satellite shot and was wondering if anyone could give me some parking info and some info as to nearby attractions.......and where is the closest mall or shopping centre? I've circled some parking and was wondering if anyone knows if that is public parking and can my car sit there all day? Any help is appreciated.....I don't want to be driving around and end up too far away from the Metro. Thanks!!

Good question! I was wondering too about parking around the Metro that is safe for afterwards since we'll be leaving late. My daughter was going to call the Metro, but I'm not sure she's done that. I can't help but be just a little picky about parking in Chicago since my first LH concert experience (at Joe's) left me without a car at midnight in a strange city! I'd just as soon NOT repeat the cab ride to the seedy tow lot and KEEP my $150 this time!! So any info would be very much appreciated!

I was wondering about this too. We will be in a rental and as I am big fat pregnant, I don't want to have to walk miles to get there if I don't have too.

hey all, don't really think there's great parking around here, but as far as the nearest mall, it's call Landmark Century City (you may have read about the Landmark Cinema, which is in there). There's some parking in a fairly small deck. And again, it's a mile straight down Clark (right by Days Inn Lincoln Park North, if anyone's staying there), so if you don't want to walk that far, it'd be a cheap cab ride. I'm not so slick as to be able to paste the map directly in here, but here's a link showing the route from Landmark to Metro maps.google.com/maps?saddr=2828+N+Clark+St,+Chicago,+IL+60657&daddr=3730+n+clark,+chicago,+il&f=li&hl=en&ie=UTF8&om=1&z=14&t=h hope this helps!

Anyone staying in the City should not try to park near the Metro. Take a cab or public transportation from your hotel. Isa, if you want to shop. Go downtown.

The parking out there is MUCH cheaper than closer to downtown (like $5 for 12 hours, vs $12 for a half-hour). Granted, to get to the Metro you'd have to go downtown and transfer from the blue line to the red line, but depends on how comfortable you are doing that. You can check out public transportation info on www.transitchicago.com for more info

Good idea, 7! Anyone coming from out by O'Hare could always take the Blue Line towards downtown, but instead of going all the way downtown, you could jump off at the Addison stop and cab from there. You'd probably save $15 - 20 bucks in cab fare each way as opposed to taking a cab all the way from O'Hare. But if you have the time and don't mind going all the way downtown, you can switch to the Red Line downtown and take it up to the Addison stop. That would be totally cheap, but it will take you close to 2 hours.

It doesn't look like that parking lot I circled has any sort of booth to pay at or anything........so it is either a private lot or anyone can park there........hmmmmmmmmmmm..........
We're going to wait to talk to the hotel staff..........I did find out the average cost from O'hare to Madison and State is $30-$35
So considering we are a shorter distance I'm thinking around $20-$25 either way.........which by the sounds of it will still be cheaper and WAY more convenient than the headache I think I'll have trying to find all day parking close to the venue.

Vicki, We are staying at SpringHill Suites Chicago O'Hare by Marriott at 8101 W Higgins Rd. The plan for us is to go into town around 11:30am - 12:00am........have lunch at 2pm do some more sightseeing or maybe hang out at a local bar........then go to dinner somewhere.....then go to the concert. We have no idea how long we'll be out before we head back to the hotel (depends how late the concert is and events afterwards).

I'm going to Metro tonight and I am driving. I'll let you all know how parking goes. So how'd you make out??? Hey Stil...parking was not hard to find. I actually ended up parking in that bottom lot on the pic that you posted. It is right across the street from McDonalds. It was $10. There is no actual booth or structure at which to pay. There was a girl sitting in her car waiting to take your money and she handed out the parking claim ticket thing for you to put on your dashboard. I know that when SHR got there (earlier than I arrived) no one was there to take her money yet. I think that she just paid when she left at the end of the evening. (Well technically I guess I should say morning. lol) There were also a few other small lots on Clark St that also had the portable signs by the street saying that they were available to park in. I saw a couple between Metro and that lot that I parked in. I think the signs for those said $12. Street parking w/parking meters on Clark St is available, if you can find a spot. The streets that surround the area are mainly residential and require a permit to park, so make sure that you don't park there.

The lot was wide open, had signs that said to pay the attendant, but there was no attendant, so we thought maybe it was one of those lots where you pay when you leave. Uh, no.... that wasn't the case. So, how do you know what to do if there is no attendant when you go in? It makes me a little nervous. What is the area like Angie? Is it pretty well-lit? Safe? I've never been there.

I know what you mean, Linda. When I first pulled in there, I did not know where to pay. I was going to leave the lot and as I started to head back towards the street the girl walked up to my car. I would not feel comfortable parking if there had been no one there to take my $$. either.
The area around Metro is fine. It is well lit and there are a ton of bars/restaurants that are open very late. I think that the hot dog place across the street from Metro is even open until 4am or something really late like that.

Me & hubby are staying in Chinatown and I know the el station is very close to our hotel. It would be convenient to take the train but since I've never been to Chicago, I don't know if it's safe that late at night (or morning as you said ) We also thought about taking a cab to the Metro and back to the hotel. Are there cabs waiting outside the Metro or would we need to call? Any info. would be appreciated! I feel like Dorothy going to the "big city"
