Marty wanted to take the band to new heights in their careers. INXS wasn't ready for a big change. I truly hope that this works out for JD. JD is a good performer, but he is not near the talent that Marty is. As a manager, when I'm hiring for a contract position that has an opportunity for a permanent position, I would probably choose the good candidate who wanted the permanent position over the brilliant candidate who will leave once the contract was up. Marty had no desire to stay with INXS beyond the one year contract but INXS will really win on the publicity they got from the show if they keep their new lead singer for a long time. I think JD's constant talk about about staying with INXS forever was because he knew that's where he had an advantage over Marty. Also, INXS already had most of the music recorded before they'd even chosen their lead singer. JD was a better fit for their pre-recorded music. Marty and his 'meet halfway' would have been better with working together on the music.
