If watching Chicago-area native Marty Casey get thisclose to becoming INXS’ new lead singer on TV’s “Rock Star” grabbed your attention last fall, get ready to be captivated again.
Casey and his band, the Lovehammers, are on the Naperville Jaycees Last Fling music bill tonight, scheduled to hit the Main Stage from 6 to 8 p.m. at the foot of Rotary Hill along the Riverwalk.
“Their star is rising, so we’re excited about that,” entertainment chairman John Wrona said.
Casey’s performances on the TV show earned him a second-place finish behind Canadian J.D. Fortune, who was ultimately hired as INXS’ new frontman.
But that didn’t leave Casey and his band out in the cold.
Marty Casey and the Lovehammers opened for INXS during a recent U.S. tour and they’re expected to draw a large crowd tonight.
The evening of performances will start with Bottle of Justus, followed by the Lovehammers and wind up with headliners Everclear on stage from 8 to 10 p.m.
“They have a large catalog of songs,” Wrona said of Everclear, the most instantly recognizable of which are “Santa Monica” and “Father of Mine.”
Wrona said the much-anticipated performance by the band, formed in Portland, Ore., in 1992, is generating a lot of excitement.
“The buzz on that is really big,” he said.
Sunday night’s Main Stage show begins with a performance by Backyard Tire Fire from 4 to 6 p.m. Singer-songwriter Josh Kelley will perform from 6 to 8 p.m. on the Main Stage, followed by Collective Soul from 8 to 10 p.m.
“(Kelley) has opened a lot for Collective Soul,” said Wrona. “Collective Soul actually played last year and it was such a successful night they’re back by popular demand.”
Monday’s Main Stage entertainment includes two Chicago area staples: Mike and Joe will play from 4 to 6 p.m., preceded by Hairbanger’s Ball from 2 to 4 p.m. The afternoon’s entertainment kicks off with a musical presentation of Naperville’s history by Chicago artist Amy Lowe from 1 to 2 p.m.
Tickets for the Saturday and Sunday night Main Stage shows are $10. Monday’s Main Stage entertainment is free, Wrona said.
Tickets can be ordered online at www.lastfling.org or at ticket booths on Rotary Hill and at the corner of Eagle Street and Jackson Avenue.
Wrona said a variety of local bands will play the Entertainment Stage on Jackson Avenue, where there is no admission charge.
Those acts include the Kimi Hayes Band, playing from 8 to 10 p.m. today; and Suns of Earth, winner of the Battle of Midlife Crisis Bands competition held at Naper Settlement in June, from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
