I went with an open mind and without any expectations but knew that the L.A. Guns back catalog of songs weren't my thing. I have to admit that the way the old songs were performed was absolutely, totally and without reservation FABULOUS!!!!! I hope that everyone who wants to get to a show is able to make their way to one! I know what you mean Jodi. I downloaded the Masters Collection and listened to it a few times. I like some of the songs, really love "Long Time Dead", but the album versions all sound "old school". The original singer really has the kind of voice that defined the 80's, definitely a much higher range than Marty. But I still wasn't very familiar with the songs, and hearing them live they sound modern, which is a real credit to the songs that they continue to sound so immediate 20 years after they were written. The only song that sounded remotely dated to me was "Ballad of Jayne". And I have to echo what Vicksie said in her review, I'm a "Gunner" now, for sure.

...if you think you've seen the best of Marty Casey, well you ain't seen nothing yet. Yes there were familiar references to Marty's past performances, but pared down in a way that was elemental and less frenetic. His vocals sound stronger than ever, with great backing vocals from Alec, Chad and Jeremy. And the synergy between Marty and Tracii throughout the show is electrifying. There is a constant give and take between the two frontmen and Marty's pared down performance is complemented by Tracii's inspired guitar work, which is engaging without overpowering the songs or the rest of the band... ...LA Guns definitely proved with this show that they are reinventing the past and roaring into the future. I'm looking forward to what they bring next. I was with Tinley, Henry, Vicksiedo, kmmill, jodisc in Springfield and what they have all said mirrors my feelings of that night. I was not a fan of L.A.Guns before now, but had gone to their first show in Green Bay mostly to support Marty...I left there with a great respect and appreciation of how Tracii and the boys have given Marty such an opportunity for him to hone his singing and performance style up yet another notch! This tour will give the world a better look at Marty and let people know what we fans have known all along. Their album will reach a broader audience and expose Marty's talent for songwriting as well. The performance in Springfield, VA, proved to me that Marty still has room to grow and improve which was surprising considering I always felt he gave 100% when performing with the Lovehammers. Marty shines oh so brightly with this band and he seems to lift Tracii, Jeremy, Alec and Chad with him, to a greater level as an outstanding tight unit. His voice never sounded better! And his performance is intense and high energy, but I sensed an inner calm as well, which I credit to his contentment. I love how talented this group of guys are. I was lucky to have met and chatted with each one of the them and pleasantly surprised at how sweet and gentle Tracii is, loved Alec's boyish charm, how Jeremy's outside intensity hides his quiet compassion, and at Chad's contagious smile and genuine exuberance! I think it cool that Jeremy (he sang STFU SO well) sings as does Chad and Alec too. Tracii is an impressive guitarist and seems to really be enjoying himself on stage, going with the flow of the crowd and his new frontman. I love that I saw a sea of old L.A. Guns fans, perhaps skeptical of Marty's presence at first, later stand there and revere his amazing performance. I kept looking around that night because I wanted to see their reactions. It was almost as enjoyable to see the crowd's awe as it was to feel my own! I AM A GUNNER NOW TOO (while still retaining my Lovehammers fondness)!!!!!! Hammerheads, you will love Marty's new direction. Join his journey and go see L.A. Guns perform and I guarantee you will ENJOY THE RIDE!!!!

Tinley - that was an excellent review, thanks!! And thanks to kmmill and yak also.
I have been watching the vids, the interviews and Marty's posts. Like Rockstar, this is such an opportunity for him. I am so happy that he made the jump to seize the moment. It takes alot of guts to make a jump like that. Especially for analytical minded people (I have much empirical data on this one..haha ).
It is just killing me that I won't be able to experience this first hand until the end of August. But feel lucky that i will get to see it at all.
THanks again everyone for sharing your experience with us. It really is thrilling!!!

Thanks Yak! Great job of putting it into words. I have to say I could not be happier about the way this is going for Marty and the Guns. Especially with such great personal and professional reviews (along with my ubiased opinion ) and to think, this is just getting started good!

Here is the last part of Rip-n-Tear from the Springfield, VA show at Jaxx on 07/19/08. It is much darker than my version of the video now that it was uploaded, but I think you might still find it is worth watching. www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0YX0Lrqc20
