What a night! I wasn't sure how I would feel seeing Marty without Billy, Bobby and Dino but I had to remember it was Marty's energy and charisma that drew me into that Lovehammers world in the first place and as usual, he delivered. I went with a good friend I met through the LH board and a friend of hers who had never seen Marty live, which is always fun!
I have been fortunate enough to see LH 4 times and this crowd and vibe was very different. Still fun, just different. Lots of guys, wearing their metal gear and serious about the band, especially Traci. I asked the guys next to me who they had come to see most, LAG or Faster Pussycat, and they were fans from way back and were there to revel in the Guitar God that is Traci Guns. I had been a fan of both bands in the 80's and was excited to see them, but told them I was a fan of LA Guns new singer. "New Singer??!! Where's Phil Lewis?" Whoa. They argued for a minute as to just WHO was the current singer and I assured them it was "Marty Casey, and he's phenomenal. Just wait."
Their set list was pretty much the same as the other reviews I've read and it was fun to hear the older tunes mixed in with the covers and a few Lovehammers songs as well, all done with that special Marty twist. A highlight for me was to hear the crowd singing "Louder, Louder" during the chorus of This Town. I knew then they had been won over and the guys next to me were rocking' and having a blast.
As we were leaving we saw Marty hanging out by the tour bus and got to say a quick hello and he seemed very happy and silly. He seemed excited to be able to spend a few days back home soon when they have a break and we took some goofy Karate Kick pictures( his idea). He was so generous with his time and I tell ya' he has such a big heart - his energy is infectious!
I wish I could do it again tonight!
