Hey Marty Happy New Year. I've always wanted to play the guitar, and now after 50 years, I fianally got one for Christmas. Ugh, The hands are arthritic and the memory poor. Do you have any tips on how to make those stiff fingers reach the strings (especially the pinky), toughening up the finger tips and remembering the chords? I say them over and over again, but man, they just don't stick! I know,,,,practice, practice, practice. There definitely are advantages to learning things when your young! Coming to the NY area soon for a solo? A long lost fan...Angel R.

Angel,
Take your right hand and hold your fingers out wide as you can. Wrap your left hand around your right wrist. Make a fist with your right hand. Stretch you right hand forward (in a fist) and feel the muscle stretch. Extend all the fingers on your right hand and feel more stretching. Repeat with Left Hand.
This will help you stretch your hands and fingers to properly position for chords on the guitar!
