It isn't clear - is it $60 a head to get in the door, or is it $60 if you want the munchies and booze AFTER you get in the door? I like to donate to a good cause but lots of us aren't able to pony up for big ticket fund raisers - and yeah, for some people $60 is "big ticket".......

Well, I just copied the info off of his blog. However, reading the flyer along with the written info I would assume that it will be a $60 donation (door entrance fee) if you want the food and top shelf liquor... or only $25 donation (door entrance fee) if you want the food and are planning to 'pay as you go' at the bar buying drinks.
*Top shelf liquor: Every bar decides what is to be considered 'top shelf'... those are the more expensive brands or those that are considered premium brands to the bar.
* Cash bar: You can pick from 'house brands'... those most often used in the speed rack (cheaper stuff to the bar) or upgrade your drink to a 'top shelf'. You will just be paying the bar tab as you go along, per drink.
Differences... well I would say if your planning on drinking more than a few drinks that $60 would be the most cost efficient in the long run. Bar tab can add up fast, but this seems to be the fee for open bar access. The $25 donation is great if you don't plan to drink a lot, but still would like to come to the event itself to show support. The drinks at $25 would be cash bar only access.
Either way... $60 or $25... showing support is all that matters.

Either way... $60 or $25... showing support is all that matters. I agree! This is a worthy cause that hits close to home for me...but since the venue isn't, I won't be able to go. Hopefully there will be a good turnout!

Well said on all points, hopefully we can get the info squared away and posted so everyone knows in *advance* the $$$$ and nobody gets a rude surprise at the door. Star - yup, ya got that bartender thing in your blood now, I think (along with some alcohol? ). And agreed - it IS a worthy cause........I would imagine that just about everybody has had either Alzheimers or another form of dementia hit somebody either in their family or who is a friend (or in their family). Finding a cure or a good treatment would be a great thing! Just to clarify my original comment, that wasn't a point of contention but simply that with the economy being in the tank these days, donation $$$$ even for very worthy causes are a lot harder to dig out of ones pockets..... So let's see if we can't get this pinpointed so anyone who is thinking of going will know what the score is. HH

So far, all I get there is an answering machine.... HH OK - got through to the number on the poster and that is apparently a cell number for one of the people in charge of the event, NOT the Red Canary itself. She didn't seem to have a problem with me calling about the event but just to be clear, you DON'T get the Red Canary at that number. She clarified the $$$$ thing - the entry is $25 for the cash bar and entry is $60 for the top shelf, which I think is what Star thought it might be. So that appears to be the straight dope right from one of the sources...... HH

Star - yup, ya got that bartender thing in your blood now, I think (along with some alcohol? ). Nope... Completely 'alcohol free zone' when it comes to little ole' me. I can pour the drinks, but I don't drink them...

Marty solo show at Alzheimers’ benefit, July 22, 2009. Marty played a 4-song set, including the premier of a new Marty song. I didn’t catch the title, but it started off about him sitting on a park bench with his guitar and pen. I really liked it a lot—good melody and lyrics. I hope we’ll hear more of it. He set up his own equipment, but Duane got to help with some sound checking. The show was held outside in the enclosed courtyard/garden of the Red Canary bar, among the trees and ivy-covered walls. It was a perfect evening—just slightly cool, a light breeze, and a few clouds rolling by overhead. Marty played just after sunset. There was no stage lighting, so my photos are all with flash. I didn’t take a lot, just enough to mark the event. The bar itself isn’t quite done, and hasn’t opened to the public yet, but it’s beautiful inside, and the appetizers they provided were delicious. This would be a good place to check out once they open. It was a really enjoyable evening, and I hope they raised a lot of money for Alzheimers research. Photos to come later.

I will pretty much second BBE's comments. Started off with a wonderful glass o'vino, nice red blend and moved to the munchies which were excellent. The staff there was very friendly and helpful. I wish I had had some time to dial in the sound a bit more but it was pretty good "as is" and Marty and I had no arrangement in advance anyhow. I tend to just try and go somewhat "prepared" (this visit I was REALLY prepared which had more to do with the other event with LH - two guitars, three amps and a [singing] partridge-in-a-pear-tree .....cables, DI box, my effects pedals, other stuff......) so IFFFF he asks, I can do my best to pull the proverbial "rabbit-from-the-hat". Of course the thing is, Marty sounds good even when a sound system ISN'T dialed in !!!! Unfortunately for this event, a "neighbor" of the Red Canary apparently doesn't care much for live music and called the cops. At first, I thought this was a joke - alas, when I saw a Chicago PD vehicle out back and the bar people figuratively pulled the plug on the performance it became all too real. (Makes you wonder what kind of zoning ordinances Chicago has or if that's a giant free-for-all.....) As you probably suspect, Marty was a real good sport about this. Three cheers for him for not letting what could probably be (diplomatically put) "frustration" spoil the rest of the event. HH

Thanks, HH, for filling in the part I forgot to post about the cops shutting down the show! I realized after I got off the computer that in my state of sleep deprivation, I'd forgotten to post that. It was actually pretty funny! ;D When the flashing lights of the police van (!) began to light up the alley behind the courtyard, Marty said, "Quick, hide the booze!" Afterward I told him, "You know you're a real rocker when the cops shut down your show!" So but for the neighbor who couldn't take the 'noise' from one guy singing and playing an acoustic guitar, Marty would have played longer. The new song itself was worth the entire price to get in, though. Along with everything else, including raising money for a good cause, it made for an excellent evening.

Thank you Nancy & HH for the review. So sorry to hear, Marty's performance was cut so short. That's unfortunate for everyone involved. Funny story, about the cops and Marty's comment, though. Of course, he handled it in true Marty Rockstar style, rose above it & moved forward. You'd think The committee hosting the Charity event, would've had the permits prepared in advance for this, so there'd be no faux pas. I hope moneys were raised for the Charity event.

Thanks for the reviews, Nancy & Duane. I hope this event raised lots of money. How unfortunate--and odd--that it had to be cut short.

A few photos from the event: Marty set up his own equipment for this show. He slung those big speakers up onto the tall poles like they were nothing! That was pretty impressive. The wooden fence behind him blocks off the alley, and that was where the police van pulled up. Such a bunch of troublemakers we all were! ;D
