I am pretty sure it is a Lovehammers original, not a remake. That is funny because last night my hubby asked me if Morphine was a cover/remake song.

On the Live Raw DVD Marty talks about writing Summertime in the City. It is a LH original.

i think it just has a similar title to that old tune... "Hot time, summer in the city, back of my neck getting dirty and gritty." (something like that.)

maybe she was thinking of Summertime Blues? Blue Cheer did that song in the late 60's, I dont know if they were doing a cover of some elses song though. But I love those late 60's early 70's unknown heavy metal bands .

Yep - that's the song and it was done (back in the day) by the Lovin' Spoonful: Summer in the City - yowsa - late 60's I bet. And then the original Summertime Blues was done by Eddie Cochran even before Summer in the City. All good "summer songs" but not quite the mood setter that the MCLH Summertime in the City is. ;D ~ T - Fountain of useless rock trivia...my name should be Flintstone.

Summer in the City came out in 1966. The exact lyrics are "Hot TOWN, summer in the city" ...

....and as if I don't seem old enough already, I'll tell you that was my favorite song at 15, I'd wait for hours late at night during summer vacation, lying in bed at Grammie's in central NH up on the third floor of this ancient house, sweltering, and trying to tune in WPTR in New York just to hear the requests and waiting so impatiently for that song which was #1 for weeks and weeks. The "skip" on the atmosphere had to be just right in those days to get that station all the way to NH. Of course, now we can just point and click and the most beautiful sounds come out of these little plastic boxes. My grandmother would've been so amazed! Hammer on!
