I remember the first time that we played in front of strangers ( I think), was at a party at Illinois State University. I was a Junior in High School and my cousin Bill got us the gig. I remember Bob, Marty, Ben, and I went down there and met at my cousin Bill's apartment. We wanted to rehearse if possible, cause we were so nervous, and never did this before - especially at a COLLEGE PARTY. Marty was playing guitar at the time, so he wasn't singing. We had never met the singer - Ricky before, and were hoping that he would show up to go over a few of the songs. I think he showed up towards the end, with a beer in his hand, and we played a couple songs, but not many.

That night there was a nervous excitement - we couldn't believe we were doing this!!!! I remember getting a pep talk from cousin Bill before we went on, to relax and just have a good time - this talk was held in a room that was filled with more pot smoke than a cheech marin van.

I don't remember all the songs we played, but I do know, American Woman, Livin After Midnight, Jealous Again, Hard to Handle and Fire were on the set list....

I also remember the girls were throwing their bras at us! I took one home, and put it up in my locker. Nothing better than bras getting thrown on stages - we need more of that!
