I know it's a little late, seeing as I'm not exactly a "newbie" anymore, but I thought I'd go back and do something I should have done from the start. My name is Carly and I live in one of the most lethal environments for a young mystery/horror author/artist: South Carolina, smack in the middle of the Bible Belt. (doom, doom, doom!) Though I had heard some LoveHammers music I borrowed from a ex-Chicagoen who lives nearby, I didn't REALLY get hooked on Marty until RockStar started. Nowadays, I spend my time reading, writing, drawing, and listening to my "Best of Marty" CD until my dad's ears bleed. I have a few characters loosely based on Marty (hey, he's really fun to describe/draw! ;D) namely Nicolae de Fatana from my novella Dark Heart, and Anuradha from my co-authored work, A Quiet Demon. Oh well...you know what they say..."better late than never^^"

Oh well...you know what they say..."better late than never^^" Nice to meet you, Carly. Your name is actually very, very similar to my first name (Juliana is my middle name). Poor you, living in the Bible belt. I can relate. I don't live in the Bible Belt, but I was brought up in the Mormon Church. No tv on Sundays, no playing cards, no caffeine, no alcohol or cigarettes (not an issue when I was a kid, obviously), and a whole bunch of other no-no's. My dad stopped going to the church was I was 8, but my mum kept making us kids go. I hated it. When I was 12 my dad decided I was mature enough to make my own decisions about religion -- so that was the last time I went to church. Despite being in the Bible Belt, though, South Carolina is a breathtakingly beautiful part of the continent with a really rich history. Try to concentrate on the positive. There's a mystery/horror writer who is basing her latest character on Marty. She's a published author who met him briefly in California. Have you heard about her? I posted a link to her blog last month. I'll try to find it for you; I think it might interest you. Her last (and first) novel got some good reviews on amazon.com.

Yeah, my mom is a world religion major, so I haven't really had to go to church since I was about 11, but I still catch a bit of grief from people who decide to "biblethump" me^^ hmmm...haven't heard of her I don't think...but I'd definately be interested! As for SC being beautiful...well...at least we have Charleston & Myrtle Beach! If I have time, I might post some of the illustrations from my stories, and if enough people seem interested, maybe I might post some of my novel Demons in Our View.

Here's the link I was talking about: www.livejournal.com/users/moschus/21556.htmlI would LOVE to see some of your illustrations and read your writing. I'm sure other people would be very interested too. Art and writing are my passions. (I have degrees in both.) I work as a graphic designer and just write and edit boring stuff like articles about education these days, but I love to see what other creative people are working on. Tooks is a writer too. She's doing her Master's in creative writing . Maybe we'll be seeing both of your novels in bookstores in the next few years. I'll be able to say "I knew them when..."

It's a little late I know to be reading about you. I enjoyed learning more about you and I already knew that you were a sweet wonderful person besides being so talented. Nice to formally meet you!

Hey, this is kind of belated, but nice to meet you. But now I realize I never formally introduced myself either, I think. Oh well, talking about myself has never been my strong suit.

Well Carly, it's nice to meet you belatedly. I think your creativity has benefitted me - I still have that Marty collage pinned to my noticeboard though now the color's a little distorted due to all the slobbering ;D
