(CP) - One day into the job, Lukas Rossi was already relishing his new position as front man of Supernova.
NEIL DAVIDSON
"It's like a mountain of power behind me," the Toronto singer said of performing live with Tommy Lee (Motley Crue), Gilby Clarke (Guns N' Roses) and Jason Newsted (Metallica). "It's going to be a great rock show, I can tell you that."
Lee has even opened his Los Angeles home to Rossi, who won the job Wednesday in the finale to Rock Star: Supernova.
"I'm actually at his pad right now, man," the 29-year-old said over the phone Thursday. "It's really cool, dude."
After singing and celebrating Wednesday, Rossi was talking all day Thursday. "It's been crazy press, man," he said.
"But it's cool. Like everyone is supporting me. It's really, really overwhelming."
Lee called Rossi "the real deal."
"He proved that he's got the voice and swagger to front this band," Lee said in a statement. "He's going to tear it up in the studio and then we're taking the show on the road. Wear a cup, kids."
Rossi even got a few hours sleep after a post-wrap bash that saw all the contestants reunited, plus friends and families, to watch the show that had been taped earlier in the day.
"It was an awesome party, man," Rossi said.
The former Hooters fry cook, who said he was "broke as a joke" coming into the show, knows his life won't be the same.
"I guess not, man. I'm still going to be the same person and write records and tour. I guess it will be blown up more than usual, but I'm ready for it brother."
First up is recording the new album, which is due out Nov. 21, with producer Butch Walker (Avril Lavigne, Pink).
Two singles - "It's All Love" and "Be Yourself & 5 Other Cliches" - will be available for sale Sept. 21 on the Internet (www.music.yahoo.com).
The band covered all the angles, recording the singles with all four finalists before the final show which was seen by 1.4 million Canadians - although those in Manitoba and parts east missed some of the action because of a mix-up involving satellite feeds.
Rossi said the album will contain two of his songs, including "Headspin" which he played several times on the TV show.
Rossi follows in the footsteps of fellow Canadian J.D. Fortune, who won last year's show and now sings with Australia's INXS. Fortune and his band are currently touring Down Under.
Rossi beat out Dilana Robichaux, a transplanted South African now living in Houston, for the job. The two held hands on stage as Lee prepared to hand down the band's verdict.
"I haven't been nervous the whole time (in the show). That was the one point where I was getting a little off-kilter," Rossi acknowledged.
Having won the gig, Rossi and Supernova ended the show by performing two songs.
The other finalists were Iceland's Magni Asgeirsson and Australia's Toby Rand.
The Supernova singer search spanned 25,000 entrants, 22 cities and six continents, producing 15 finalists including Rossi and Vancouver's Jenny Galt who was sent home earlier in the series.
Supernova's debut show is Jan. 1 in Las Vegas, with Canadian dates scheduled for Jan. 23 in Montreal, Jan. 24 in Toronto and Feb. 19 in Vancouver.
The band's initial tour will take in 27 cities before ending at Long Beach Arena in California on Feb. 27.
The band may be looking for a new name, however. California punk band Supernova is involved in legal action to keep sole possession of its name.
Runner-up Robichaux got a consolation prize. She was invited to join the tour as a support act, and to use Clarke as a writer and producer on her record, with co-host Dave Navarro volunteering to play guitar.
Navarro's Panic Channel, the Rock Star TV show's house band and "fan favourites from the show" will also be on the card.
Rossi says his story is one of perseverance.
"If anyone out there is listening, you've just go to have a dream and don't let anybody tell you that you can't do it. Because it's always possible."

Does anyone know where I might be able to watch the whole interview with Lukas when he was on the Ellen show? Did he sing? Or if someone who watched it last Friday could tell me what other guests were on there that day. Then I'd be able to find it on Ellen re-runs on the Oxygen channel.

The Rock was on the same day Lukas was. He didn't sing, but he was adorable, talking about his mom and missing Canada and working at Hooters.

Here is the link for Sendspace to download the interview. It's a big file (17MB) and takes time to DL, but definitely worth it. Lukas and Ellen are cute together, but he doesn't sing.
Hey 4... thank you!! I ordered a dvd from lukas rossi connection.net that has all of his performances, and bonuses (like the Ellen show)... and footage with his band Clevage.
Also, on lukas-rossi.com (differnet site) you can download his audition song, a duet with Dilana... and lots more incl Headspin as sung with his band Rise Electric. I haven't had too much time on there, but the song Beautiful & Bored (?) by LR & Cleavage sounded awesome.
Cindy and Amy... I hope it was okay for me to post this. If not - please delete!! I couldn't handle any public spankings!!
Wondering where all of[br]my basement buddies are??[br][br]

On ebay, Lukas' CD from Cleavage with 6 songs on it is at like $205.00 last time I checked with still 2 1/2 days to go. I was just on Bearshare last night and got the rest of the songs from that CD. I know it's not cool, but, hey, I'm trying to save my money to win his shoes! I will park them next to my Marty Casey shoes! He-he!! On another note, I was wondering why I wasn't able to bring anything up on Yahoo Music for "Be Yourself..." and "It's all Love". Thanks for the post that it will be available on the 21st! At first I was a liitle bit boo-hoo-hoo hearing Lukas sing it and not Toby. But Lukas is awesome. Toby and Lukas were both my favorites. Either one winning would have made me happy. But the right man won, and go Lukas!!!

Here is one of the more interesting discussions to spring up recently about Lukas. This concerns the vocal coaching Lukas got on Rock Star and his former vocal trainer's blog about how WRONG the advice was that Lukas got.
A bit of background, Lukas trained at Royans School for the Musical Performing Arts in Toronto and the Master Instructor there Diane Yampolksy blogs on MySpace. Her blog of Sept 1 is all about Rock Star and she has some interesting things to say, if you are in to this sort of stuff.
