I see the David Bowie thing too. I've been a Bowie fan since I was a kid. Speaking of Bowie (I promise this is the only time I‘ll stray from the topic just a little)….One of my secret guilty pleasures is watching movies that are so incredibly stupid that they make me laugh my butt off. I just finished watching one of my favorite “stupid” movies--- ZOOLANDER and one of my favorite scenes was when David Bowie came out to judge the “walk-off” between Derek and Hansel. Bowie is just plain cool in anything he does and so is Marty---they definitely share that quality! If only Marty could replace Ben in this picture then life would be perfect……..

LOL! Yeah, Zoolander rocks for it's shear stupidity.
As far as who Marty looks like...he looks like Marty (though when other names have come up on this baord I've generally agree, and when he was asked who he thought he looked like in an In Touch article even he said a young Tom Petty).

Can't find where the link is now (so many threads, so little time!) but somewhere on this board is a link to an article by a woman who met Marty at a party recently ... I think it was in LA ... and she said he's one of those men who have an "angelic face" but a little of the "devil inside." Works for me!
He doesn't really look like anybody, which is what separates him from the pack. The closest I can come up with is a cross between Tom Petty and David Bowie.

I think he's definatley got the looks of Tom Petty and David Bowie, but some of his moves remind me of Mick Jagger. Its in the way he saunters across the stage.

you know, it is funny that others thought the exact same thing I did when I first saw M.C. on Rockstar - That he looked exactly how I pictured Lestat when reading Anne Rice's novels. As far as the Bowie/Tom Petty/Peter Murphy references, I can see that too, because he does seem very reminicent of all the sexxxxxy musicians I drooled and pined over during the 80's!

Marty reminds me of my 5th grade crush. Blonde, gangly, shy and kind.

Marty reminds me of how much I love music, and love to dance and be alive and how cool it is to be American. I could go on and on. He is also what I pictured the Vampire Lestat to look like. And I thought of that when I saw him perform the first time. I loved the way he let the song "take" him and wasn't worried about what his hair was "doing" while he was performing.

LMAO!!!!!! I am a big Owen Wilson fan and I loved Hansel! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!! Bowie was the perfect addition to the movie. I am a Ben STiller fan too, though ever since he had his own show.

Tiny Dancer Great. I also think of David Bowie when I see Marty. Of course there it stops, as they are so different in personalities. He also reminds me of Tom Petty, who I just love!!! But I love Marty much more. He is my breathe of fresh air, my mystery lover, my lover who sings to me at night. well, I can dream can't I? Jean

He reminds me of David Bowie, too. That was one of the first things I thought about him when I saw him perform. Have to agree, he also reminds me of David Bowie.

That would definitely be cool. I definately get a Bowie vibe from Marty. I'm a big David Bowie fan. I think that's why Marty caught my attention. I can see Marty doing 70s glam rock. I'd love to hear him sing a Bowie song.

I'm sure all you Bowie fans know this song. It's one of my all-time favourites. The lyrics remind me of Marty (and some of the Marty-bashers I've read on other boards.) Just replace the black hair with blonde. David Bowie - Lady Stardust Lyrics People stared at the makeup on his face Laughed at his long black hair, his animal grace The boy in the bright blue jeans Jumped up on the stage And lady stardust sang his songs Of darkness and disgrace And he was alright, the band was all together Yes he was alright, the song went on forever And he was awful nice Really quite out of sight, really quite paradise And he sang all night long Femme fatales emerged from shadows To watch this creature fair Boys stood upon their chairs To make their point of view I smiled sadly for a love I could not obey Lady stardust sang his songs Of darkness and dismay And he was alright, the band was all together Yes he was alright, the song went on forever And he was awful nice Really quite paradise And he sang all night long Oh how I sighed when they asked if I knew his name Though they was alright, the band was all together Yes he was alright, and the song went on forever He was awful nice Really quite paradise He sang all night long P.S. I hear a touch of Bowie's influence in LH's "Starlight Lady". I think I was initially drawn to Marty because his stage presence reminded me of Bowie during the first part of "Take Me Out". Marty is definitely an original, but he captivates his audience from the moment he steps on stage just like Bowie.

You are so great at verbalizing the way that I have felt from the first time that I saw Marty. Thanks so much for the Lady Stardust lyrics.

Marty's voice is certainly original but he reminds me a bit of Jack from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Listening to the Mancow show this morning, when I heard Marty's voice it hit me loud and clear what he reminded me of.
I have a cousin overseas whom I absolutely adore . . . he means the world to me. We have a soul connection going on that's almost other-worldly. There was a time where I saw him every day, but years go by now before we get the chance to see each other. When I speak to him on the phone and hear his voice, it just makes me cry . . . it goes that deep.
When I hear Marty's voice now . . . or hear yet another example of what a wonderful person he is . . . it's starting to do the same thing to me.
I need to say it again . . . Marty I know you'll grow . . . but please don't change . . . who you are right now is exactly who you were meant to be.

Marty doesn't remind me of any one person I've known, but he is very familiar as if he is a long time friend I've know for years and I'm so proud of because of his success. I think that's what makes him so special he is an open book and as you said he's exactly who he was meant to be right now and I hope he never changes.

Marty reminds me that I am alive, that I am a woman and that love is real.
