This isn't necessarily a "squee" category, so I decided to post over here.
Who does Marty remind you of? I'm thinking either physical looks, stage persona, voice style, etc.
He reminds me of a young Tom Petty, among others. Tom Petty is my all-time favorite.
I think Marty nails Nirvana vocally. His healthy respect & admiration for Kurt Cobain I feel have a large part of that.

Yes, I somewhat agree. He also reminds me of Tom Petty. Of course, I was jamming to Petty today and kept thinking, gee - I would like to hear Marty sing that one.
It is really hard to narrow down who he reminds me of as each performance was different. I do know that watching him (stance, etc) performing Creep that it really reminded me of David Bowie.

Looks wise, sometimes Kurt Cobain, sometimes David Bowie. Voice wise, lots of different people all rolled into one. And I think that's what makes Marty such a great performer....he's got the talent of many different people, along with the uniquness of Marty...it's very hard to explain.

To be honest, he looks like a very dear friend of mine who died years ago. (that I had a bit of a crush on, too!)
Other than that, I do think he's extremely unique. Facial features, voice, performance style, etc.

Eddie Vedder for intensity Anthony Kiedis/Young Iggy Pop (tp me, the sexiest man ever) physically As for Bowie and Cobain...easy, girls, those are Beings of Light , not human.....

As much as I hate to admit it....Marty reminds me an awful lot for Michael Hutchence.....Dunno why. When he performed w/INXS in the finale it just seemed like a natural, comfortable fit. Otherwise I would say Kurt Cobain intensity wise with a bigger stage presence.

Remind you of someone? Nah...
The thing with Marty is he just fills up the space so totally that there is nothing else going on there but Martymania!
Have you noticed that the whole room becomes one with him? He's familiar somehow, like you've known his soul forever!
It's not just performer/audience either. There's definitely something "other" going on, and I think that's the main reason INXS didn't dare try him as lead for fear of being absorbed into the Martyness...

No doubt about that......You definitly get that familiar vibe. It's pretty rare tho that you see someone come right out of the box that way. I think it's great that someone comes out with that much intensity, and is not an emotional basket case.....just down to Earth.

I do not feel the need to compare Marty to anyone...... Marty Xavier Casey (MXC) is an anomaly.....he leaves his audience on the edge of their seats......craning their necks to see him perform.......he mesmerizes his audience with his voice and his stage presence.......he ""IS"" the song he performs........and that is so rare...........it's a gift that he has always had but we are just beginning to catch glimpses of....... Marty is like noone...and noone is like Marty.......period.

I definately get a Bowie vibe from Marty. I'm a big David Bowie fan. I think that's why Marty caught my attention. I can see Marty doing 70s glam rock. I'd love to hear him sing a Bowie song.

My first thought when I saw him was Tom Petty. But then as I go back and look at all his perfomances he did on RS:INXS he seems like a different person in each one. As stiletto said, "He IS the song". He takes on a different persona in each performance. I think I would have to see him perform a concert of just HIS music to really see what he is like. I think he would have his own style that would be different than anyone elses.

I agree that Marty does have similar characteristics to all those guys everyone mentioned, but for me Marty doesn’t remind me of a particular person----instead he represents all those awesome tall, slender, long (mostly blonde) haired, extremely talented guy Rockers of the 80’s (but Marty brings it all into the 2000’s….. up-to-date and HOT). As far as his voice, it is one of a kind.

....Michael Hutchence...it's true. Something in the smile and eyes are so Hutch.... Even Tim Farriss said Marty reminds them of Michael.

This is a difficult question. As I read everyones replies, I tend to agree with all of them. That said, I think the thing I most appreciate about MXC is his midwest backbone. It seems he has a lot of smarts (which only makes him sexier ), and common sense too! Of course him being easy on the eyes goes with out saying .

Marty definitely reminds me of Bowie's look.....Blond floppy hair, angular features, intense expressions etc. As I 've said on another post,I wish he would develop his baritone ala Bowie, too. The screaming can't be good for his vocal cords over the long haul.
