Oh, nice selection gdm3! Another one I love: (from Velvet) "Now its time we take some time Strip off all the layers I see what your body has to offer My mind hits the dirt Start the penetration Your lips don't hesitiate In and out together Bodies can hardly wait" If that doesn't get ya in the mood, nothin' will. That is so hot...wow... speechless... ...shower...now

"Velvet" is on the Ultrasound CD. Sadly I don't have Ultrasound..so hard to find and so expensive if you do...due to bidding wars on Ebay....can't blame people for wanting it so badly! However, thankfully I do have "Velvet" downloaded on my computer...ain't saying how it got there And reading those lyrics..penned by Marty... is very, very hot...just reading the lyrics...yowza....hearing them sung....by his royal hotness...beyond what I can describe

"Velvet" is my current favourite. I was having a particularly stressful morning at work today. After concluding the hissy fit I was throwing down the phone line at a guy who had screwed up one of my printing jobs, I went outside for a smoke (or two). I put Velvet on my ipod and played it 3 times. Aaaah. I felt like a new woman afterwards. The smokes were good, but Marty was better.

I just couldn't resist. As soon as you posted the link for the video, I imported it into iMovie and watched it frame-by-frame (that's my favourite way to watch Marty). I'm a sick puppy, I know. I just wanna make it laaaaast.

My favorite lyrics right now are from Sleeper, especially the opening lines. This song could just be a sweet thing, like Trees, but it has a hint of darkness, also like Trees, which is always something I enjoy:
Last night I dreamt I was sleeping In peaceful lonesome In perfect heaven Last night I dreamt I was dreaming I drank the potion But still I feel the demons And I'll go, but I already know what is there..for me I'll go but I already know... Moments 'till I'm free
Bright light shine on a new day My body's sleeping but my mind's awake Weight of the world descending How can I possibly change the world?
And I'll go, but already know what is there..for me I'll go but I already know what is there....
Don't want to bring you down Don't want to bring you down Don't want to bring you...
Feeling fine, I'm feeling good Feeling like I never should I wish I may, I wish I might I pray tomorrow I'll be alive Can't stand the pressure Keep it together Feel like the nightmare's gonna last forever
Maybe I'm just scared Maybe I don't care Maybe I'm just scared Maybe I..should change
Here we are Falling asleep on our dreams
--------------------
I saw an explanation Marty gave a long time ago on the old Lovehammers site of what this song is about, in case you're interested:
Marty: I was lying in bed trying to fall asleep but couldn't. I laid there for hours. This is a fairly often occurence. Sleeplessness. Sometimes when I can't sleep I try to imagine the bed sucking me in. For some strange reason it hepls me slip away. You are kind of in a state of half sleep/half reality. I can see cars headlights pass by my window but it feels more dream that reality. You know you are somewhat still awake but your mind is so tired you don't have a firm grasp on reality. I think it was moments before I would have fallen into deep sleep and the melody "last night I dreampt I was sleeping" blew through my head. And the rest of the lines just kept coming. I had to force myself to get up and write the words down. I knew I would lose them if I feel asleep till morning. I grabbed a book that was on the floor and wrote the entire song on the inside cover. It was a book called "The Stranger". Billy and I ent into the studio a few days later and recorded the song in one take. It wasn't a perfect take but it had the right sedation to it. I figured that the words came without any effort then so should the performance. 'm proud of that song. The band did a great job mixing the song because everyone agreed it should be left raw. Just a naked voice. I thought it was a perfect way to end "L'Strange".

Wow - that was really interesting! I love that song. I've heard that a lot of creative genius and problem solving happens in that twilight zone between wakefulness and sleep. Einstein came up with some of his theories that way and I think it was Mozart (or maybe Beethoven) that came up with some of their music while in that 'zone'. Still trying to find my genius . . . keep falling asleep.

Okay, I'm no Einstein or Mozart (or Marty), but I can relate to what Marty is describing. I'm a designer and writer. If I hit a creative block at the office, I don't try to force it. I set the project aside and put it out of mind until really late at night. Once I get past that foggy point of being really tired, I'm in another zone. All of the outside thoughts (over-analysis, self-censorship, etc.) are shut out; there's room for creativity. The ideas start flowing naturally at that point. I can never reach that sort of free-association and clarity in the daytime. If I'm up against a really tight deadline, though, I take a shortcut and resort to a bit of booze. That works brilliantly too.

wow... i love that explanation lesley... where on the LH site is that?
i'm trying to find a connection between Sleeper and Camus' The Stranger... but really all i'm thinking is... how cool is it that Marty reads The Stranger?! (no wonder he couldn't sleep yeesh)... they should sell Marty's copy of The Stranger with the Sleeper lyrics in it on ebay... I WOULD DEFINITELY BUY THAT! (if i wasn't still broke from ordering L'strange and The Live/Raw DVD)...
i want more stories of artistic inspiration...hmm... i wonder how Billy comes up with his solos?
