I found the quote from Marty about "Sleeper" buried in the band's old guestbook. (There's 700+ pages of that old guestbook!) It was from 3-4 years ago, I think. Someone had asked him about the inspiration for the song and that was his response.

There's a thread started by sheowl under "Marty." She read through the 742 pages of the old message board and posted lots of Marty's posts. She included the one about Sleeper. This is my absolute (current!) favorite LH song. I love that story.

I image I'd already be published by now if I could only force myself to get up and write down everything I think of in the middle of the night (sometimes I roll over and fall back asleep thinking I'll remember it...and I don't).

I know exactly what you mean. I sometimes get ideas when I'm half asleep and I think, "That's bloody brilliant!! I'm a freaking genius!! This bed is really comfy... zzzzzzzz...." Then I forget what the idea was by morning. I console myself with the thought that all of these semi-conscious epiphanies may just be really stupid ones -- much like the ones I have when awake. They just SEEMED brilliant because I was half asleep.
