This is the first one I found, and it's not very complimentary. Remember it's only one writer's opinion....... www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/entertainment/music/13659957.htm?source=rss&channel=miamiherald_music"Marty Casey & Lovehammers Epic ** Rock Star: INXS, last summer's reality show that found unknowns vying for the lead singer slot in INXS, provided a national platform for struggling Chicago band Marty Casey & Lovehammers. Casey, the likable blond who found a way to make a Britney Spears song rock during the competition, wound up in second place, losing to brasher Canadian rocker J.D. Fortune, but his band garnered the opening slot on the INXS tour (playing Boca's Mizner Park Feb. 26) and Casey may be able to compete in the big time with his band's eponymous major-label debut. Casey can carry a tune, is energetic and photogenic, and his bandmates can crank out convincing Nickelback-styled/'90s-era hard rock. But that's also the drawback. Nothing really feels original or fresh and the music already sounds a bit dated. Marty Casey & Lovehammers arrives in stores Tuesday. Pod Pick: Trees."

That's an "uh-oh" moment for him. I have the feeling he's going to be deluged with nasty emails disagreeing with him!

We can thank him for the Nickelback comparison. Nickelback is selling out arenas right now, I think. Remember there's no such thing as "bad" press.

That's disappointing, but it is only one review. Good call on the nickelback reference!

Remember there's no such thing as "bad" press. That's kind of my thought. He probably had a stack of 20 CDs on his desk and his LH review was chosen as one of the three to be published, so it's not all that bad.

Here is a review from Barnes & Nobles' "All Music Guide". It's better, sort of...you'll see what I mean. Interesting comment about Nickelback. music.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?userid=NW0b1C4Cz3&EAN=828767687322&ITM=1Excerpt- "This isn't a revival so much as it is a re-creation, and it's a successful one that would sound comfortable played next to Bush, Stone Temple Pilots, Sponge, Better Than Ezra, the Verve Pipe, or Seven Mary Three, and lacking the grim monotony and meatheaded misogyny that plagues Nickelback and Puddle of Mudd. That's because the Lovehammers really are a straight-ahead rock band that came of age during the great alt-rock boom of the '90s and never caught a break while the music was a success."

Don't worry, joey - that one's worth repeating! I like it because it is a well researched and thought out review - unlike this crap that I just found. Okay - it is not a CD review, but it's still a commentary on the band: seattlepi.nwsource.com/pop/256464_inxs21q.html?source=rss"There also was plenty of audience support for opener Marty Casey, another competitor from "Rock Star: INXS." With his band the Lovehammers, Casey previewed his album that releases next Tuesday. Although he made a great first impression, he is unlikely to have much staying power." And that's it - the end of the article. There's absolutely nothing written to back up his opinion - ugh! It probably should just be ignored.....

The band will wear out before we do. We'll be pushing their wheelchairs out onto the stage one day. Please sing Trees Papa Marty!!

I was about to start another thread - saying WTF is up with the press in Seattle - b/c here's something else I found - seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/artsentertainment/2002752028_inxs21.html?syndication=rssMarty Casey, a finalist on "Rockstar; INXS," opened the show with his band, Lovehammers. Casey, pencil-thin with shaggy blond hair for an eraser, also enjoyed playing rock star, although his original songs were undistinguished. The best-received song was a cover of Johnny Cash's classic "Ring of Fire." It's total nonsense!! I think I need to stop reading anything from Seattle and think happy thoughts........

Maybe he has it partly right. I loved the sound of Pearl Jam, Live, REM and Sound Garden. I'm finally loving music again...Lovehammers music. There may be a connection. Good music is good music....plain and simple. It will be up to us to buy the CDs and make it happen for them. Lovehammers Rock!

Interesting - thanks thefunk. It was not well written. I would respect his opinion if he was able to back it up or something, but it was a weird way to end an article.

In the Vancouver Province on Thursday (I don't have a link - I just read the paper) the concert review was good. It focussed mainly on INXS, but described how the place was full for the Lovehammers too, which is apparently unusual for an opening act. It didn't have anything negative.
However......earlier in the week, the music review of new CDs coming out only rated the Lovehammers CD with a C+ which was disappointing to read.
It's all so subjective though anyway. We like what we like.... and we like MARTY!
PS - Do you think they did "Ring of Fire" because of the movie "Walk the Line" making Johnny Cash more prominent right now? It's the only reason I can think of.
