I just noticed an "Ask Marty" question about Set Lists... ... I hope the person asking and everyone else knows we are all kidding! On a related not, if someone tells you "Knock Knock"... www.knock-knock-joke.com/default.htm

Yeah, on the set lists, it's nice if a fan or 2 can have them to post on the board for the record, rather than having them all go into the trash while we try to recreate the set list from memory.
That's why people want set lists. It's a way to help document the show. Also, getting to see the set list gives those who couldn't be there a little bit more connection to the show, especially when it's a hand-written list.

Marty looked and sounded great! It was nice to see him a bit more uncensored. From the moment the show began, I couldn't help but think, A LOT LESS CANDY. Candy?

I love that quote from Marty - when he was doing his treatment of "Hit Me Baby One More Time" (loved that!). I went back to the vault to see if we had a link to the video clip from that week, but I didn't see it. It's on the Rockstar:INXS dvd though. What I'm hearing, then, is that Marty is really bringing the rawk? Thanks for all the photos and reports!!

I'll have to go back and look at the dvd (can't tonight) but I think it was regarding HMBOMT, not I Alone, IWO.

Yes, IWO, it's something like that. He is talking directly into a camera, rather than in the group or on stage.

Really enjoying all the reviews...Thanks. If you all wouldn't mind, could someone one please spell out for me what you mean in regard to a lot less candy. That statement could be interpreted in so many different ways...From someone that has never been to a LH or LAG concert...I would appreciate a little more. Do you mean Guns and Roses a lot less candy or Motley Crue a lot less candy or KISS a lot less candy??? Hmmmmm

Do you mean Guns and Roses a lot less candy or Motley Crue a lot less candy or KISS a lot less candy??? Hmmmmm That's his quote regarding Britney Spears song he had to perform during the RSINXS, the song was called Hit Me Baby One More Time. He did a great job singing it , although it was not his favorite song if you can imagine. The song by itself is pretty well written but is definitely in that pop-ish teenage oriented sweet/candy style.

Kudos to key!!!! It was definitely right before Marty's performance of HMBOMT! He looked a little disheveled and as if he had really been stressing about his performance. He claimed that he was going to do a darker version of the song. Then he said, "A lot less candy", with a very animated expression on his face. I absolutely loved that quote as well as the performance. wef - I apologize, but I'm not certain that I could adequately define what Marty meant when he made the statement. Nor could I even define my interpretation of it if you've never seen a LH show and didn't see the episode where Marty made the statement. Let's just say that Marty's performance with LA Guns was a bit darker or harder rock than his performances with LHs. Hope that helps. Again, thanks to everyone for indulging in my nostalgia.

Iwo--I love that last photo! Two world-class talents are really digging what each other are doing, and they're elevating each other's performances. Awesome!!! Yes, the "less candy" comment was about Marty's take on HMBOMT. I think he may have really wanted to say "a lot less CANDY-ASS", judging by the look on his face when he said that into the camera.

Off to Schaumburg and my 4th LA Guns show! This was Marty's homecoming show, and lots of his family and friends were there. TBone was there, too. (Someone asked about members of Lovehammers. I didn't see any of them.) The place was packed--I heard someone say it was sold out. It was a pretty good-sized sports bar, so I'd estimate there could have been at least 500 people jammed in there. I don't see how they could have fit many more in, that's for sure! We enjoyed talking to our Hammerhead friends before the show. It was nice to get to sit down during the opening act for a change. Then it was time to get up to the stage for LA Guns! Everyone but Marty came out and got their gear plugged in and ready to go. Then a familiar looking top hat appeared in silhouette near the stage, and people started screaming "Marty! Marty!!!" The band launched into "No Mercy", and Marty hit the stage ready to tear it up! The whole show was a very high energy and intensity performance by all members. Marty jumped up a few times, and thankfully didn't hit his head on the ceiling or the ceiling fans. He seemed to be making up some new stage moves to compensate for the lower ceiling. One memorable one was when he climbed up on the front stage monitor speaker, stood on one foot, and did a high kick with the other. It was quite a sight to see! I think I did get a photo of this one time. The crowd was really into their show, and lots of crowd interaction and singing along. "Trees" was especially tight and rocking, the best I've heard it on this tour. I have to say that when I listened to the old recordings of LA Guns, I couldn't stand the song "Sex Action", and cringed over Marty having to sing it, because on the record it came off so much like sleazy 80's-band bragging. Well, I am no longer cringing! He takes the "oh puh-leeease" factor right out of that song, and makes it something else entirely. That takes some doing, but he pulls it off! "Rip and Tear" is becoming a new favorite for me. It's stuck in my head! They totally take flight on this one. Marty and Tracii are spurring each other on to new heights! The rest of the band are really on, too. Just great stuff!!! Although the set list says "Gypsy" on it, they didn't actually play "Electric Gypsy" that night. (Darn! I really like that one!) They played for an hour and 15 minutes. I'm not sure why they didn't get to play longer, because it took Faster Pussycat 45 minutes to take the stage after LA Guns finished. Not sure what was up with that long delay--it hadn't been that long at the other shows. After LA Guns finished, we went to the far end of the bar so that we could talk with some friends and not have to scream over the next band. We also wanted to sit and people-watch. We had decided not to interrupt Marty's time with his family and friends, so we were just hanging out. We got to see a spirited pool game between one of the Bang Tango guys (the young guy who's on his first tour), and some of the locals. He was quite good! We told him that if the band thing doesn't work out for him, he could always become a pool shark! He had some sweet trick shots down. A little later, Marty and his friends were joking around with some motorcycle gang members who had come to the show in their gang vests and gear. They were big, burly dudes, some with shaved heads. Marty even charmed them and won them over. One of the big burly dudes took him on in arm-wrestling, and Marty won! (Not sure if the guy let him win, or if he won fair and square, but he was sure giving it his all--the muscles were bulging! ) Then the big motocycle gang dude PICKED MARTY UP AND CARRIED HIM AROUND A BIT!!! This was all so darned entertaining that we hung around until closing, watching all the goofiness and talking to friends. Shortly before he left, Marty stopped by our table and gave us a little love. Awwww!!! That was so sweet of him to do. We had told him the night before that he didn't have to spend any time with us, to have more time wtih his family and friends. But that's just the kind of guy he is. We closed the place down, then went to get a bite to eat. Then PCD set in (post-concert depression), because we don't have any other shows scheduled now. Back to the boring parts of reality. I wish we could go to shows all summer! Anyone who is trying to decide whether to go see these guys--DO IT!!!!! You will have a blast!
