OK, I guess I'll be the first. And I intend to be honest about what I thought. Though there will probably be some disagreement among those of us there, I know some liked it. I was not blown away (pun intended) LOL.

First impressions - they need a new sound guy! The band was sooooo loud that they overpowered Marty. I admit, I was right up front taking pics, but I had a real hard time understanding him, and even my husband, who was in the back, said he couldn't understand anything except the songs he knew (which amounted to maybe 3 songs). The only time I could really hear Marty was when he went acoustic by himself and did Wish You Were Here. And my husband thought that one was bad because the audience in the back was making so much noise that he couldn't really hear it well. Now, maybe that's the way the band wanted it. The other 3 bands were also very loud (for a very small venue). So maybe it's just the way metal/hard rock is done. I don't like it that way.

Marty was, well, Marty. He did seem to really be enjoying himself. He said the sound check was their real first rehearsal. I was not very impressed by the band. Tracii is a good guitarist, but I personally think Bobby total blows the drummer away. Jeremy was OK, and so was the new rhythm guitarist, Al, but nothing special. But they're pretty young still. And I am really not into heavy metal - which is still what most of it sounded like. Marty hasn't changed the sound much.

I think they have a lot of kinks to work out. Hopefully, in a few shows, things will sound better. And I will check them out in Schaumburg to see if things have improved. But I had to admit, there were a couple of times when something happened that just hurt (mentally mostly). One, he did his scary conductor behind Tracii's back, the way he has done so many times with Billy. And then Tracii had to start and restart Trees about 4 times because he couldn't get Billy's opening riff right.

Jeremy actually sang STFU - and did a pretty good job. This Town wasn't bad - they did a pretty good job with that.

We ran into Marty before the show - he was very happy to see the few Hammerheads who came. I didn't stay after the show, we had to drive straight back to Chicago.

Thanks for your review Lyn. The pics look odd without the LH guys in them. Marty looks kinda stressed or uncomfortable in that first one, but maybe I'm reading into it. I'm really surprised they are playing Trees. Glad Jeremy did well with STFU. Looking forward to Dallas.

Thanks for the review and the pics! For your information guys, the band is not responsible of the sound in a club. It is the sound technician of the club who set it up. As per what I know, they all were unhappy with the club's sound tech's job but it sometimes happens and they can't do anything...

BTW, I've read another review that other LH fan has sent me and it was totally different... in this case, she enjoyed a lot the show...

Thanks so much for your honest and heartfelt review. It sounds like those difficult moments you mentioned were pretty rough. I think my heart would sink watching the scary conductor thing.

This might sound completely weird but, it reminded me of the first time I spent time with my father and his new girlfriend (after my parents had divorced) so many years ago. Circumstances change, people change, change is hard, and sometimes hurts. I hope I am not reading too much into your review, but it sounds like the show was incredibly awkward from an LHfan's point of view.

It cannot be easy to be the first person to comment/review this much anticipated event. It's nice to know that Marty appears to be in good spirits and that his stage presence has not altered. It's too bad their very first show had to have those sound issues...and for you standing way up front... well

Again, thanks for posting at such a late hour. Speaking for those of us waiting here impatiently it is much appreciated. I look forward to more of your great pics! Nice job-
