This place reminds me of an old abandoned playground where I can stop in and play every now and again. - The DistanceFear – it’s not really a choice; Rather a shadow that hovers in the corners of the mind Ready to stop me at the most inopportune moment; Blurring the answers I so wish to find. Courage – doesn’t mean fear’s disappeared; Just means I am ready to laugh defiantly in its face. I have seen much, and heard much, to let it control me; I am learning how to reign in it and put it in its place. Travelling the distance Is no simple task Coming face to face With demons from the past; Willing to feel What I refused to before Accepting what I can’t feel And I’ll try to no more. Rage – the storm unleashes itself; Swells deep inside; doesn’t take long to burst. Once it gets going there’s no satiating the hunger; Parched from the heat there’s no quenching the thirst. Peace – it’s the eye of the storm; Serenity breathing new life into me. Sorting through painful words I pretended didn’t hurt; Healing takes so long, is that how it’s supposed to be? Travelling the distance Is no simple task Coming face to face With demons from the past; Willing to feel What I refused to before Accepting what I can’t feel And I’ll try to no more. Dark – places we all have to visit; Reminds us we’re humans so beautifully flawed. Deny you’re hiding nothing behind that sweet seductive smile And I’ll stare you down coldly and call you a fraud. Light – took a while for me to see it When my judgement was clouded and I looked the other way; Fumbling through the mayhem, I catch glimpses of clarity And I wake to the blank canvas of another hopeful day. Travelling the distance Is no simple task Coming face to face With demons from the past; Willing to feel What I refused to before Accepting what I can’t feel And I’ll try to no more.

Stunning Blue! Simply stunning. I think my favorite lines were Rage and Peace. I loved to comparison to a storm.

I miss all the visitors to this playground. Perhaps if i make enough noise we will see some wander back in here...
The Storm
Like the purity of snow, falling with beauty and grace Covering my world with its blanket of oneness Layer by layer smothering the moments of light Slowly building its fortress of silence
Observers admire the elegant landscape So pretty, so poised, so stoic Groomed to perfection careful not to reveal The dark storm that is brewing within
My shelter has vanished, nothing left to protect me Food for my heart a thing of the past How will I survive this storm that engulfs me? How will I find my new path?

The Replacements
Together so long like a pair of old shoes A strange brand of comfort knowing you were always there Until that very moment when the world stood still Fear and Worry you fled for good on that dark day
Invading my sleep each and every night Fear and Worry you played all night long Dancing through thoughts, whispers to my soul Constantly making your presence known
And now you are gone, like a flash disappeared Leaving me forever I can only hope Your replacements have arrived to take up your space Sad and Empty have quickly settled in

US
No glance unnoticed No touch unfelt No words unspoken No kisses forgotten
Every smile exchanged Every memory treasured Laughter ours’ each day Love always freely gifted
We did it all No regrets
We just didn’t want to see the end That’s all

Amazing, Liz...pure and straight from your heart. I am happy you are sharing these, and I hope it is cathartic for you. I also hope that one day, when you are ready, you write "The Replacements II" with two very different words.

Liz, I'm so glad you're finding the words again. So heartfelt! Shelly, that is such a powerful poem. I especially like the part about not trying to make yourself feel what you don't feel. There is a lot of freedom in that decision. to you both!

Thank you, Nancy! You are right...there is freedom in that decision. And until you get to that point, you are definitely not free.

. where is everyone?? It's like a ghost town around here. I need some cheering up. how about something to make me laugh??? Blue, BBE, Key, Star, GP??? The Enemy Creeping forward relentlessly Not willing to turn back Turning memories into distance Time, you have become the enemy You’ve made it seem a lifetime Since my heart was full and whole Yet I can still count in moments When his breath touched my soul Although my heart is standing still Each day goes by without his sound Time, I will never ever let you Erase the other half that was mine

Hi bostongirl! I wish I had something to make you laugh.
How about "may the 4th be with you" ... since this is May 4 ... yeah, that's lame. ;-)
I don't know where everyone else is. There's a cadre of us down in the basement, but otherwise the board is very lonely.
Hope you are doing well and will post more poetry!

Oh Key, your attempt alone made me giggle, thanks!! i actually took a few minutes today and reset my profile so i could get to the basement to say hello. I was then compelled to read back a few pages to see how everyone has been. it is sort of intertesting reading backwards, like starting a book on the last page... ;D ;D . Of course, i was interrupted by work and havent had a chance to get back in. I hope my other friends will also post some work. It has been quite here. This place needs someone to make a rukus!! Key - hope you are doing well and have fun things planned for the summer. Liz

OK, my dear Boston, here's a little something for you. Hope you at least crack a smile when you read it. If you read my latest FB status, you'll know what inspired it. Fun-SizeI’m the type of girl who’ll look you straight in the eye; I might have to look WAY up… But don’t even try To mess with me, Address me As a sweet cutie-pie; Cuz that’s you talking nonsense And that ain’t gonna fly. I’m the type of girl who’ll make my way to the front; I might have to push you aside, You’ll end up bearing the brunt Of my fortitude My attitude When I’m on the hunt For that perfect front-row spot And I’ll pull every last stunt. I’m the type of girl who knows how to hypnotize; You might have to look WAY down But you’ll fall prey to my eyes… They’ll hold you still And control your will And you’ll feel mesmerized; Don’t underestimate the power Of a girl who’s a “fun-size.”

I love that one Blue! It reminds me of a friend I had back in high school she always told me that she wasn't short she was fun size. Then she told me one time she was the last to get wet but the first to drown. Still girl.

I was working on a little piece in my guitar class, something for a church retreat. And not something I picked out, but was assigned to me. My guitar teacher and I just played it through together and then looked at each other and he said, "wow, that's a song without a tune," at the same time I said, "that song hasn't got much of a tune!" Great minds think alike I suppose.
Anyhow, teacher said, "song without a tune", that'd make a good song title.
And it got me thinking so that after I left class and drove to my next appointment, I made up a little poem that I might actually try to set to music. Here 'tis:
O little song, you have no tune, Just lovely words like moon and June, And the lovely thoughts when lovers spoon, O little song without a tune. The tune you had cannot be found, I've listened closely but hear no sound, And I have listened all around, But where it is, cannot be found. What will we do, without this clue, Without a tune to sing you to. I fear we will be sad and blue, O song, what will become of you.
