Kindness of Strangers
Your heart stretched wide open Your hands with their warm, gentle touch We are total strangers Yet you seem to care so much
Patience your glowing halo Kindness your swift sword Your gifts are given unconditionally Sharing this burden of life with us
When helplessness overtakes the skies Your compassion soothes day after day Gently guiding us to a better place Always knowing just what to say
What unseen power Gives you the strength To enter our nightmare I know you have better options
I will forever be grateful Dear strangers of grace For your love and support During these darkest of days
Thank you

Lester I’m in love I have been for a long time A man stole my heart Never to be returned
They say you don’t love a person Only how they make you feel I’m in love with the rush and thrill Inside when he comes near
I am in love with his quirky humor Although corny and goofy and fun He makes me laugh when I don’t want to His mission to make me come undone
He holds me with the strength of a giant Yet so gentle and tender with intent Secure and safe in his strong arms Knowing the world can do me no harm
I’m in love with his sweet, crooked smile And his happy, sparkling blue eyes His nose so perfect and long Where else would I ever belong?
His most precious gift is his heart Kind, gentle and open to all Ill will never allowed a visit Gifting children endless hugs and wet kisses
I’m in love with a man of character Silently maintaining the good path Reaching out with no expectations Good will always in his heart
Humility is his trademark Inner strength his warrior’s sword Words are not his life’s forte Actions speak replacing his voice
I am in love with a man beyond measure Infinity doesn’t seem to come close I’m in love with a man named Lester Thank goodness I had no choice

I love this one, Liz! So heartfelt, expressive, and emotional. Your recent poems reveal to me a paradox: life seems to have dealt you both a certain hand...and with that hand you two are so unlucky, and at the same time, so very lucky. Hope that makes sense... Got one to share. I have no idea where I was going with it....just wrote it and thought I'd post it. DichotomyThe cold air Though it’s bracing How I long for the heat It overpowers…when you hold me When we’re tangled in the sheets. The cold air I run against it Breathing hard, working up a sweat Purging yes, changing no Every road leading to regret. Wisdom eludes me And this confuses me How many times will we repeat the same mistakes? We suffer We mourn We recover We’re reborn And never ready to say this is more than we can take. We’re either weak Or strong To keep holding on We’re either afraid Or brave To let the storms just pass on And leave us Shaking In their wake Desperately needing to be held Knowing the heaven that beckons us Is worth suffering through hell The cold air Though it pushes me Pushes me up against a wall I know that you’re with me And you won’t let me fall. You’d give everything to save me And think nothing of it, at all.

Blue - You are right on about the paradox. I guess you could say we are the unluckiest lucky couple on the planet. ;D. I am so very, very grateful for everything, no matter what. I love your poem Dichotomy. It is what relationships are all about. And perhaps life. Well written. Thanks for sharing.

Change
We live for those around us, Never breathing for ourselves.
Following a chosen path, Shackles on our bare and injured feet.
Hoping for some semblance of a future, While praying that no one will remember about the past.
Life... A light that slowly burns away.
Like a candle melting fast... There is no way to make it stay.
Cry tears for tomorrow, Cuz' there is no time today.
Change... Better start today.
Running down your sanity, Trying to stay afloat.
Sinking ship in turbulent seas, When sadness is no joke.
A hole inside grows bigger and bleeds... While all the madness slowly starts to choke.
Life... A light that slowly burns away.
You need to break the chains!
Like a candle melting fast... There is no way to make it stay.
Somehow hope can find a way!
Cry tears for tomorrow, Cuz' there is no time today.
Change... Better start today.
Start breathing for yourself... It is time to make a change!
Change... I know you will find a way.

Off the cuff...(well, sort of)
Beginning
Standing in the doorway Hesitant to walk outside Afraid I’ll turn around And escape to what’s inside.
There’s really nothing left But I’m foolish, and I’m weak; I’d rather justify Or turn the other cheek.
I’ve turned into some sort of warrior Tilting at windmills, or so it seems And life carries on without me While I waste away in a dream.
I wish for the dawn To enlighten me To inspire me Rather than frighten me.
How easy it would be To fade away quietly in the night; How rewarding it could be To shine intensely, like the sun’s light.
I can motivate myself with powerful words, Repeat myself hundreds of times, But without action, what do they mean? Nothing…just wishful, empty lines.
Time…I wish I could control But I wouldn’t even begin to know how. As the sands slip away… Stories unfolding… Ending, beginning… The time to write a new story Is now.

Hi Blue - I just saw your new poem. I like it very much. Taking action is not always easy.
Here is my latest.
Fire Fighter
My life much like a burning building Flames lashing out without warning The heat at times too much to bear Seems such a danger to venture near
I watch as many turn to flee I don’t blame them for their fears It is difficult to know what to do And more awkward what to say
The few who run towards the flames Forever grateful yet I do not understand With disregard for their own wellness They come prepared to pull me from the fire
My love comes with no conditions It matters not which way you turn My arms remain wide open There’s no need for all to be my fire fighter

Wow--so many excellent new poems since I was last here! Good work, poets!!! I feel like posting a poem today, so here it goes.... Playing
At the keyboard the music pulls me in. The sounds coming from my piano match the sounds in my head.
It is perfect. Not perfect in technicalities, but perfect in the flow, the flowing out of all the emotions I am feeling. I close my eyes, and the printed music vanishes.
Now I am playing my own music, that shifts and turns as my mind urges it on. Time no longer exists. Only the notes, merging into chords, separating out again, phrase following phrase.
My soul is singing, and the pain is draining out my fingertips. I play until peace returns and I can sleep.

Nancy !!!!!!! Excellent poem!! I really love it. I miss playing music. I have been thinking about taking up guitar rather than return to the sax. I can totally relate to this poem and what a release it is and how fulfilling to express yourself through music. Thanks so much for sharing Liz
