Here is more information than you EVER wanted to know about the toque:
From the Canadian Glossary, eh! courtesy of Ron English. tuque far more specific than the American "knit hat", although you still have to specify if there's a pom-pom or not. [If you disagree with our spelling of tuque, and think it should be touque, toque, or some variant, please find a dictionary that agrees with you and disagrees with us before you send me e-mail. Also, be prepared to explain why LaTuque, P.Q. is spelled the way it is. Thank you. --Eds.]
So is he wrong about the spelling??? Read on . . .
From http://www.apparelsearch.com: A toque (pronounced /tok/) is a type of hat with a narrow brim or no brim at all. They were popular from the 13th to the 16th century in Europe, especially France. One toque that is still common is the toque-blanche, which is the standard chef's hat. The term comes from the Spanish word toca. The spelling (pronounced /tuk/) is often used for the tuque, an originally French-Canadian woolen hat worn in winter. This "fashion" originated when coureurs des bois kept their woollen nightcaps on for warmth during cold winter days. The Canadian Oxford Dictionary regards the two words as being etymologically unrelated, with the "toque" spelling being as a result of assimilation.
So Trees, it's pronounced tooke just like you said . . . and nobody's wrong ;D

I'm Debra and I live in Mississauga. I've been haunting these boards for a while now, but don't post very often. Like you, Stiletto, I was born in Halifax, lived in Dartmouth, moved to Ontario (Ottawa), and then I moved back to Dartmouth, back to Ottawa ... You might have guessed that I'm a Navy brat. I have tickets to see the Lovehammers at Massey Hall on February 6 When the tickets went on sale, I was trying with the computer and had my daughter trying with the laptop and I guess it was my lucky day, as I got 2 tickets Anyone else going on Feb 6?

Sounds a little weird, but I never appreciated Pink Floyd until I heard Marty re-create "wish you were here". I have played both versions over and over and still find Marty's better.
Powerful stuff... Thanx Marty.

Hi Debra, It's nice to see you here . . . Mississauga is my old stomping grounds, but it seems not many people there outside of us have discovered Marty and the Lovehammers yet. But they will . . . if I have any say in the matter!

Bumping this thread

Hi Trees, This is the thread, right? I'm still not sure what 'bumping' means, but I'm signing in here to connect with Canadian Marty fans. I live in Gananoque, used to live in Ottawa, before that Toronto, before that Waterloo. I move a lot and may be moving to Kingston this year. Not sure if there's anyone out there from Gan or Kingston. It's been awhile since I posted. Since I'm still a new fan, I figured why not post here and say hey. I was at the Lee's Palace show and the RockStar party - my avatar is from one of my pics at Lee's. Captures an intense Marty - I call it 'bullseye'. My pics weren't so great, but maybe I should still throw them in to Photobucket and post the handful of half-decent ones. I'm just learning how to do this stuff now - in fact, I don't know how to put pictures in a post. I'm off to Toronto this weekend. I'll be going to Healey's again. A music-filled weekend. I can't wait till it's a 'Marty-filled' weekend!

Red.... good to see you posting. I forgot to mention about the BUMP meaning Just means the thread has not been used for awhile. So when we want to bring the thread back up top of all the rest of topics we press Bump or post something in the thread. Nothing too deep in meaning. Enjoy the Fangirl Section... Their a great bunch of women, with like mind of Marty Enjoy

Hi Redjasper. Hope you had a good music-filled weekend. Hope to see you post again. Enjoy yourself at MC.org Hi dustyblue, I had a blast in Toronto - wall-to-wall music! I was at Healey's Roadhouse on Sunday afternoon. Jeff Healey does a jazz set and it's great. Of course, when I'm sitting there watching, I can't help thinking about the RockStar Party in December. I got to talk to Marty for a couple of minutes and I asked him when he'd be back in Canada. He said he'd be back in March, but I guess we'll have to wait a bit longer. Then again, my hearing was probably short-circuiting from standing right in front of him. Oh. My. God. Where are you from? Have you seen Marty and Lovehammers yet?

Hey redjasper -- nice work on the avatar. welcome to the boards. thanks about my avi. I think his face is a bit distorted - like too squished or something. I still love that look. Marty is incredibly hot when he's in 'scary' mode. Remember 'I Alone'? I was frozen to my seat watching him. Need a new smiley for that expression. Oh, wait... this one will do.

I am hoping to sometime. You are so lucky to have met Marty. I was just looking at all your pics in the Fan Girl section. They were great. Keep on posting.
