Hey everyone,
Have had a terrible week here, things going wrong all over the place and just soooo busy.
New Years eve is always a stay at home non party night for horsey people as horses and fireworks just don't go well together, Mick and I spent the evening out in the paddocks and stables with the horses to calm them when midnight struck, luckily no serious injuries to the ponies just a few scratches and scrapes from being so frightened by the noise. Fireworks are banned here in Victoria but there are always some idiots that get hold of them and let them off in their paddocks not thinking about their neighbours horses and livestock. Last year Wendy, a close friend of mine lost a foal that ran into a fence and broke its neck because of fireworks. Very sad that this happens every year. Other than that my New Years was fine.
My mums birthday on January 2nd so a big shindig for her that day and night.
The next day the bushfires were virtually at our backdoor and we were on evacuation alert luckily the fire didn't jump the road and we were safe but very scary there for quite awhile.
Lightning strikes set it off as it is very hot here at present and has been now for nearly 2 weeks with no relief in sight, the drought is extremely bad and very upsetting with so much property lost to fires and so many livestock destroyed due to no feed or the bushfires. Each year seems to be getting worse. I really hate it.
The next day my friend Julie's horse cut her leg and nicked the artery and lost alot of blood, many hours later with the help of the vet and a lot of sedation (for the horse, not me) she was bandaged up and is going to be fine but it was nasty there for awhile.
The following day Cat (Martys mum) came down with colic due to the heat and dehydration. A different type of colic from which Thommo died but very similar to watch the horse in total agony. It was a very long 3 hour nervous wait to make sure she came thru OK which she did, but unfortunately there is a chance she has lost the foal she was carrying by Charles which has left me very upset as you all know I sold Charles to NZ and it would be his last foal for me and it would be a brother or sister for Epic.
Will have to wait til late September to see if she foals or not as to hard to do pregnancy scans on this mare as she is so scared of different people and strange things.
Thank God Friday was a quiet day horse wise, just busy for me with blood tests, physio and doctors appointments etc in the stinking heat when I would've much rather stayed home in the cool airconditioning.
Anyway, it is now Saturday, no bushfires near us at present and all horses fine, so that is wonderful
I hope everyone had a much more uneventful week than I did.
Jet, the HJII cover looks fantastic, great work mate
trees, thanks for your thoughts and the firefighters that are heading our way to help out, it is VERY bad here at present and no day goes by without the smoke haze and the smell of the bushfires. It is terrible, this is the only reason I hate summer.
Den, you bloody legend and buddy for life, thanks for your emails, I got Jens email but haven't answered her yet, I will do it today, I am so far behind with my correspondence. Marie rang me last night and told me off for not staying in touch, she thought I was sick again cause I hadn't rang her for around 10 days but she understood when I told her how things had been going, she is like a mother hen, fair dinkum, give me some space!
Anyway, better sign off and catch up on some other stuff. I reckon we should maybe keep this thread going and start another NEW thread in the Fangirls section, that way everyone is happy and we can chat in a couple of different spots, what do you all think?
Bye for now, love to all as always, stay cool here in Oz and stay warm for my USA and Canadian mates.
Cheers, Helen.
