My best bet would be Van Halen.
Maybe... Blind Melon or Sublime...hmmm?

My mom said they (producers?) announced it would be Van Halen on WBCN (104.1FM, Boston) this morning...I'm fairly sure that this was an official statement. (Sublime would be fascinating though...I loved them.)

My mom said they (producers?) announced it would be Van Halen on WBCN (104.1FM, Boston) this morning...I'm fairly sure that this was an official statement. Y103 (Youngstown, OH) also announced Van Halen this morning, but I found this news article which was released in response:Van Halen denies 'Rock Star' sequel involvement, MTV retracts report By Steve Rogers, 10/20/2005 Van Halen denied today that the group would be taking over INXS' role in a possible sequel to this past summer's Rock Star: INXS CBS reality series. MTV News had reported yesterday that "a source close to the show claimed that the core Van Halen trio... will be auditioning potential frontmen and women" if CBS renews the lead singer talent competition (whose fate is still undecided) for a second season. However the news outlet had later mysteriously removed the report from its MTVNews.com website within hours of its publication, only to issue a correction early this afternoon. According to the new report, Van Halen's spokesperson has told MTV that "the band flatly denies any involvement in the show." MTV also issued a mea culpa for the original report's statement that the spokesperson had told it that "the band had no comment regarding pending projects." "[The] spokesperson was never asked specific questions regarding the group's hypothetical involvement with the Rock Star show, MTV News regrets the oversight," the news outlet stated in its correction. The one part of the original report that MTV News seems willing to stand by is that Rock Star co-host Dave Navarro had declined to discuss either the show's future or his personal involvement in it but had told MTV that "Van Halen would be awesome -- I'd just love to sit and hang with Ed [Van Halen]." MTV's report had followed several weeks of rumors about potential second season Rock Star bands in which Van Halen and Alice in Chains had been the bands most frequently mentioned. Earlier this week, a spokesperson for Alice in Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell had denied that Alice in Chains would replace INXS and scoffed at the notion that the band would even consider appearing on the show.

Hello Robin, Thanks for that update. Oh my, oh my! what group is it going to be? If there is going to be a RS 2...the only groups that I can think of is Sublime, Blind Melon, The Cars, and Creed (since Scott Stapp left, but I'm not sure if the other members had formed another band.) Maybe it'll be some group that is not strongly renown-a underground group maybe...hmmm...

Please NOT Queen! No one can replace Freddie Mercury.
If it's true that Van Halen doesn't want to be part of RS2, then I'm glad. Sammy was great but no one can really equal David! And, for me, David Lee Roth IS Van Halen.
Even the other bands like STP, Nirvana, Cars or The Smiths (I loved those guys) would, in my humble opinion, NOT work out for RS2. They're too distinctive, representative of the genre. Their frontmen were essential in making the bands what they were to their fans. Anybody who replaces them would be second best, no matter how talented. They'll always be compared to the original and come up lacking.
So, 'round and 'round we go again...

I think they should do Rock Star: The Bands, with unsigned bands competing for a recording contract and maybe a tour.

Heart o Texas Great idea. I really loved the house band in Rock Star. In fact I liked them better than INXS. They were really hot. But I guess they need a NAME. Whoever it is, it will be great. I got very involved with most of the singers. After awhile they seemed like family. I miss (almost) all of them!!! Think they are much better than American Idol!!!! After Rock Star, A1 seems really boring now!!!

I heard through the grapevine that the chatter about RS2 was going to be without a band. Sort of like AI, but obviously classier, less cheese, and better ( much better) music. If they go this route, do you think they will keep the same format for eliminations? I really liked how the bottom 3 had to sing for survival and without a band like INXS to pick which ones stay and leave---will they have a panel of "Rock Stars" do the honors? I bet Dave Navarro is one of them!
I never really cared for the voting format on AI because sometimes the better singer received the least votes from the public. I had a friend at work that wanted Constantine to win last year, but she would only vote one time for him because she said he would get plenty of votes. So she spent her time voting for others she felt needed it and when he was booted off she was totally surprised. How many other people didn't vote for a popular person because they figured they didn't need it? And it's a shame that one bad performance can kill a singer when they might just be one of the best. I think all the performances throughout the competition need to be taken in consideration---that is one of the reasons why I loved the "Rock Star" way of elimination!I voted my fingers off for Bo every week!

How about Rock Star: Menudo? :(JUST KIDDING!
But seriously, anyone remember this boy band? I remember seeing them sing on Saturday mornings between cartoons.....(those great 80's cartoons like the Smurfs and Snorks). I wasn't really a fan, but I'd sit through anything to see my cartoons.
Well I just came across this and wondered if the success of Rock Star might have a hand in this (everyone is jumping on the bandwagon I guess):
"Ben Silverman wants to give teen girls around the world a new Menudo to call their own. The reality producer is attempting to revive the bilingual band that gave birth to Ricky Martin, teaming with Menudo Entertainment principals Jeffrey Weiner and Barry Solomon to create an "American Idol"-style competition. The goal: Bring some young blood back to the group, which was first formed in 1977. " oh lawd. MENUDO? ? I vaguely remeber them. or maybe I have them mixed up with someone else? ? DId they do a weird song called something like " pass the duchie"? I know it was little kids that sang that song. I did too many drugs so my memory isn't so good.
