Hi ladies: Cheza. Wendee Lee and some of the other Bebop people are involved in the Champloo project? This must be a real good one. I was curious about this movie because Amazon has been recomending it to me. Joe

...The first episode of Champloo is on Adult Swim right now! I bet it will be re-ran at 3:30 A.M. CST...I hope you see this. I take it this is a one shot thing (tonight's the night of programming by the Burger King contest winner), but it's really ironic since we were discussing it earlier.

Unfortunatly I missed it. But I've been checking out some of the sessions on YouTube--in no particular order. Looks very good. How well is the character development in this show in comparison to Bebop. Do the characters have secrets and vulnerabilities to which you really begin to care for them? I think this is key to any great show or movie.

Cheza: I watched the first episode of Champloo on You Tube. Always good to start at the beginning. I really enjoyed it. I like the main characters. Joe

I forgot about Fuu running through the streets with the fireworks in her dress. That was funny! Mugen wants to be such a bad-a... I think Jin is my favorite of the two samurais though.
There are some secrets to be revealed. The biggest one, of course, being why Fuu is so insistent that they find the "Samurai Who Smells of Sunflowers". The answer isn't revealed until late in the game, but if you pay attention you'll probably figure it out before she comes out and says it. She is pretty vulnerable. Jin also has some demons to face and Mugen...well...he's just Mugen. He has issues too. It's been a while since I watched Champloo. I only have three of the seven discs. Some episodes are poignant while some are funny as heck...just like Bebop. Music is also an important part of the series...where Bebop had jazz, Champloo has beatbox and hip-hop (including the scratching of records, etc.). The final three episodes (Champloo has 26...another similarity to Bebop is its' length) are extremely intense.
I need to revisit Champloo. I do love it. It's just an old friend I haven't visited in a while.

Adult Swim has brought a new anime into the mix on Saturday nights. It's called Death Note.
The storyline of the anime deals with a young human (he's in school...probably high school from what I've seen)...who finds the Death Note - a mysterious notebook with a list of instructions. When a name is written in the notebook, that person will die quickly...I think within a minute. If you write how they die...they will die that way...if you don't they simply die of a heart attack.
The synopsis from the series official U.S. Site:
"Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects - and he's bored out of his mind. But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But when criminals begin dropping dead, the authorities send in the legendary detective L to track down the killer. With L hot on his heels, will Light lose sight of his noble goal...or his life?"

1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer...one of the BEST SHOWS EVER! EVER, EVER EVERRRRRRRRR!!!
2. Angel...the 3rd season is when it got really good, when Connor was introduced. Don't bother with the first 2 seasons, jump right into the 3rd.
3. Madmen - it's on AMC, very entertaining show.
4. My So Called Life - was on ABC back in the day, for 1 season, and was pulled due to being too controversial. It still has a HUGE cult following, and was seriously one of the best shows ever done. You gotta see it, it is like one big movie, and it just reels you in.

I LOVE "My So-Called Life", ANNM!!!! They just released a complete set of that one on DVD. I saw it at B&N the other day.
On Buffy, should we say skip the LAST season? I watched them all. Another great show, as was Angel.
Mad Men is genius. I adore that show.
Peace!

I thought I'd drop in and post a couple of pics from Death Note tonight (this morning, really) before heading to bed. This show is getting good, but the main character is getting a bit evil...his focus to kill off the scum of the earth seems to be waning...now he'll kill anyone who gets in his way. The first screenshot is of Light (the mortal who has the Death Note) and Ryuk, the Shinigami who dropped the notebook into the mortal world. The second is a shot of Light holding the notebook. Enjoy! Remember, Champloo returns Dec. 1! Peace.
