Thanks, Trees! We should be safe, just COLD!! It's in the 20's today.
And to confirm what zzz said (welcome to NY, btw!!!), your cell phones should work here, many subway stations don't have elevators (the major ones do, where several lines converge, and many more have escalators), and wireless is everywhere especially since we seem to have a Starbucks on every corner. The subway is $2.00 a ride but you'll need to buy a Metrocard to use it ... the subway token is a thing of the past. And booth attendants don't sell cards for less than $4.00 (two rides). If you buy an unlimited card, which lets you ride as often as you want for a flat fee, you can't use it for 18 minutes after you have swiped it. I have seen people buy one card, thinking they can also let their friends use it, and they have been stuck. Cabs are expensive ($2.50 just to get in, and they click up quickly). Flat fare from JFK by cab to anywhere in Manhattan is $45 plus tolls and tip.
I'll be sending around a final dinner email in by Sunday so that we can get a head count. How does everyone feel about pre-ordering food to save time?
Five days!!! I still can't believe it.
Wendy

I wish I could make it to dinner, but it appears that maybe I am not welcomed by everyone, and that is "ok". I was going to "try" and make it, but I can get a slice of pizza at the little hole in the wall near CBGB's (if its still there from 2001)....
How close is the restaurant from HO JO's Wend?

Rockbeast,
Hey, man, if you can make dinner, please please please come! PM me if you want with details. The restaurant is maybe a ten minute walk from the hotel, unless you get distracted by the stuff in the stores (Apple, Kid Robot), which happens to me all the time.
However, if you really aren't coming, there's Two Boots Pizza on Bleecker Street. I'm pretty sure they sell slices. Unless you want to try a knish from Yonah Schimmel, which is right next door to the hotel (just kidding!). I think they've been there for over a hundred years ... the store, not the knishes!

Wow, that's great about the cameras!!!!! And the place is really small, so the pictures are going to be AWESOME! I'd better get some fresh batteries. I went by there earlier today and here are a few more logistics. Doors open at 7:30. Remember to bring the credit card you used to secure the tix, although it's CASH ONLY for the tix themselves. My credit card was charged for the ticket, so I shouldn't have to pay cash for it right? Going to bring my confirmation just in case.

brennak, I don't know the answer to that. Of course, the guy behind the counter may not have realized that I wanted to pick up tickets that I had already ordered.

Rockbeast,
No, it's not, but you are in luck. THE Jewish deli is Katz's, which is right down Houston Street, maybe three blocks from your hotel. DON'T let anyone tell you to go anywhere else. The only other option that was even remotely as good was the 2nd Avenue Deli, which just closed. If you want the real deal, that's the place to go. It's been there forever, started the "Send a salami to your boy in the army" tradition during WWII, and was where the "faking it" scene in "When Harry Met Sally" was filmed.
We can alway change our dinner plans, if everyone else is on board ... what do you all think? It's not hip Soho like Kin Khao, but you can't eat anyplace else that is anywhere near as "Noo Yawk" as Katz's.

RB, you MUST go to Katz's -- it's an institution and the sandwiches are amazing! Have a pickle for me, babe!

Does anyone know if CBGB has a coat check so that I don't have to freeze to death waiting outside and not have to deal with a heavy coat during the show? ;D

I'll try emailing them about it...they were pretty quick to respond to another question I had. I'll post here if I find out!

So of course we'd get the first major snow storm the night before LH hit town! I really, really, really hope they don't cancel tomorrow night's show. I am very grateful that I also got tix for CBGB's!

My friend, who is going is NOT a Lovehammers fan, she was just going to keep me company (I paid for her ticket!)....I'm sure she won't mind if I take you...The seats aren't as great as yours, I have left side, front row first balcony. I would rather go with a sister Marty fan anyway....Let me know what happens tonight? Yak

I had gotten myself tickets for the 12th and my friend tickets for the 13th, because I couldn't get her any decent ones for the 12th. Now she can go and I can't because of the snow. Argggh!. But we both are going to CBGBs on the 14th.

Well, at least you have another show to look forward to when they reschedule ... I'm assuming LH will be opening for them (?) ... otherwise, I'm not going!
