What if we started a thread 'Merry Christmas Marty' and started with a simple wish for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and then maybe some sort of statement that below he would find our gift to him and the Christmas wishes of his MC.org fans. Then the link, or whatever it ends up, to the song followed by 'Christmas card type' postings by each person individually so it would end up with the thread being one giant Christmas card filled with everyone wishes for him.
Thoughts.....opinions? What do you all think?

Wow Hammeredham, you're quick. I agree that the song was a little lengthy and the part removed (which was so cool) may work in a separate song. HH - can you make a video of this so we can hear what it sounds like using Windows Movie Maker (to compress it) then send to us via emails through yousendit.com or megaupload.com? As for recording the vocals, that will be interesting to see how we can make that work. Bostongirl, the card idea is good. Hope it's easier to write than this song, lol. Making a video is a whole other can of worms - short term it will be a lot easier to record it audio only and export out as an mp3. I want to remind everyone that it would sound somewhat incomplete as there would be no drums or bass part in it. I gather, by your comment about vocals, that you're thinking to have a number of the folks here get on the recording as well? It isn't impossible to do but it sure complicates the picture - were you thinking of individual versions or everybody all on one kind like "We are the World" or something like that? I'll try and get something recorded ASAP although I'm fighting some personal issues and time constraints. Let me see what I can get down and go from there.

Thanks Hammeredham. The audio MP3 route sounds fine. (I don't know how to do that just the video route).

Thanks Hammeredham. The audio MP3 route sounds fine. (I don't know how to do that just the video route). Ahhh...I see your dilemma. It isn't that I *can't* do video, it's just that anything that I could do on short notice would pretty much be a "hammeredham-records-a-song-video" which if that was the whole thing would be a serious bore. Well, I suppose some people might think it interesting but me just sitting there largely ignorning the camera and sweating some details.......not very entertaining. I suspect that amongst everyone here we can find a way to get you what you need.

HH - the changes are fine. I loved that bridge but knew we would be making lyric changes when we turned into an actual piece of music. I will miss it though. It was so unique and clever. On the vocals - go for it. I did not know that you could do that. If we had more time, I would research on how to do a group vocal in a virtual world. FOr this projecy - I think we are out of time. Sarted too late. I agree with the MP3 method. Let me suggest that anyone who wants the .MP3 to email me. HH can email it to me and I will handle the distribution. We can then give HH feedback on this thread. HH - I will PM you my email address. GP - I love the verses on the card - great job. THanks. Ok -I like the idea of posting the thread. Regardless of how we end up doing this, I think we should put it there for all mc.org members. I had another epiphany. If someone has access to Marty to plan a date and time - I was thinking of organizing a conference call where we could all call in with him and then have him open his gift with us. Not sure that is possible. I'll will get the conference call number. What do folks think ? If folks like the idea, then I will look for a resource that can contact him. Ok, it the scheme of things, I started this thread late last week and we have had many, many people submit ideas. came up with a song, and our now putting music to it in less than a week. Amazing.

HH, You are my hero , Can't wait.. When it is ready we need to provide access outside of this forum. Even if "he" finds this thread, I do not want him to open his present early Unless someone has a better idea, I would suggest the PM me your email and i will distribute the .mp3 when HH is ready.

It occurs to me that I am not 100% certain just who all has lyrics in the song!! If I print out a copy it would be good to have a "Lyrics by" credit on it, and it may be that the intended recipient might want such a copy. I feel kinda bad that the other guys are left out on this one - but I guess that will be up to someone else to deal with, eh?

It is up to everyone that contributed as to how we want to handle that. I was not thinking that we were going to point out who did what. Or that it was only from certain folks. I was thinking that we would have the present from the mc.org fans. It is a personal present/gift to someone we all care about.
This was open to all to contribute and it was a group effort and I feel we have captured the spirit of mc.org. We buried it somewhat so it would not be to visible to you know who. Naming individuals is contrary what I had in mind.
What do others think ?

I agree I don't think names are necessary, at least not to me. I know your intention was that it be a gift from the fans of MartyCasey.org and I feel really good about that personally.

I think my query may have been misunderstood, although some good points have been made. I was not so much interested in trying to make it from *individuals* but simply to recognize the EFFORTS of individuals who represent mc.org. I absolutely think that it should be presented, as originally conceived - from all of mc.org. That being said, I don't think that after that happens too many people here would begrudge those who created it a simple by-line. I opened a different thread sometime back in the Creativity Vault for people who like to/want to play and sing LH songs and certainly, I would love to have lyrically creative individuals join in that area. Heck, who knows? Wouldn't it be cool if something jelled from such a set of creative minds that was interesting enough for the guys to want to record it? OK, maybe that sounds far-fetched NOW..........but recalling that Rome wasn't built in a day, as the cliche' goes, neither is really good musical collaboration. Heck it took Lennon and McCartney a few years to start cranking out hits eh? Well, I don't *expect* anything.....I don't *anticipate* anything.........but I also don't want to tune out good creative efforts and I sure don't want to see the people who created them go unrecognized. In the end run, I think that the individuals involved really have the right to say yes or no and I would not disrespect anyone who said they didn't want the by-line; I'd simply call it their choice. Primarily, it's for a certain person and how many people will ever even hear it I don't know but I had thought about a "paper presentation" in a red envelope as being a kind of "karma-based" gift. Maybe that's kinda over the top?

For whatever this is worth, you can say this is from the mc.org fan/members with special thanks to: all of those that contributed to the lyrics (listing the names).
Just a thought.

I support what you have given a lot of though around lyrics and their creators. Like Rockfan has mentioned... thanks RF simple by-line Marty doesn't have the time to be going through threads reading all the effort that has gone into development. This I don't believe is going to happen.... IMHO If we want him to see the whole process, I'm not sure if Boston has said something about making a hard copy , sort of like a little booklet, and giving it to Marty by hand at a concert. This is the link to HH thread. I've been keeping an eye on it and really hoping the support we have here does go over there and word gets out that the thread is there for others to take part in. martycasey.proboards62.com/index.cgi?board=vault&action=display&thread=1160439128&page=1Going along with your saying HH... 'Rome wasn't built in a day' hummm That's because we wern't on the job ;D ;D ;D Just my thoughts... you have to remember I have sleep depravation and can't spell right now either...
