Oh, I forgot to mention that Marty climbed all the way to the top of the speaker stack during the show! That man has no fear!

I was sitting near Nancy & Duane & overheard some of the jam session-It was so intimate right there in the back of the bar-I tried to not pay attention-I didn't want to ruin the moment! It was so special-I would have died!

Darn, I really hate that I missed this show! I vow to myself that I WILL NOT Miss a show within a reasonable distance again. IF work and family can't understand that Marty is a priority then I just have to persuade them a little harder!!!!

Setlist and poster from Cardo's. This is Marty and Jeremy's setlist. Check out the warning at the bottom! (Not sure whose writing this is.) This was on the back of the setlist. It's Marty's writing, and was originally in silver pen, but it looks black on the scan. Not sure if this was from another show, or a rough draft of a setlist. You can see a bit of the actual setlist words showing through from the other side. I 'liberated' one of the show posters from the restroom at the end of the evening. ETA--BANK VAULT PHOTO SHOOT WITH MARTY AT CARDO'S IS NOW UP ON MY PHOTOGRAPHY MYSPACE!!! Click the link in my signature line below, then look in the Pic Gallery.

I was sitting near Nancy & Duane & overheard some of the jam session-It was so intimate right there in the back of the bar-I tried to not pay attention-I didn't want to ruin the moment! It was so special-I would have died! I appreciate very much your discretion at that moment in time. Thought I'd respond to this on your post as you appear to be a fairly new member and so it seemed like a good idea to show that we are a pretty friendly group. You wrote "I would have died"...... well, there IS a certain element of that involved but at the same time Marty has a way of putting people at ease. He has been very gracious to me and I feel fortunate to be able to think of him as a friend. One with an occasionally wicked sense of timing......... There is a little bit of a story behind this little one-song "set" and I will state right up front that I am probably leaving some "stuff" out because I don't, as a general rule, publically post the contents of *private* messages. That being said, the whole thing got started with Billy. That probably invokes the question, "Huh?" Well, as many of you are probably aware, Billy is seriously into his guitars and gear and I was wanting to get him to try out my Peavey T60. While they have been out of production since about 1987 (mine is probably, based on the serial number, a 1980) but I'm part of a website: www.peaveyt60.comwhich is VERY fortunate to have Chip Todd, the T60's designer, as a resident member. He still builds custom versions as "one-offs" for people, with the blessing of Hartley Peavey himself so long as Chip doesn't put the Peavey logo on them. So we generally call them "CT-60's" or "Chip Todd 60's" or something like that. Well, I got close a few times but the timing never seemed to work right. Really, there's a lot more to the Peavey story but it isn't so much relevant here other than to say we T60 owners are *incredibly passionate* about our guitars. If you want a good view of mine, my personal myspace known as "t60player" has it as a background photo if you look at the profile page. So I figured I'd share an experience with this delightful axe with Billy, and if he liked it enough to want one I knew exactly who to send him to so he could get one made; and Chip makes them in all kinds of woods, colors, etc. so Billy could get it tailored more to his personal liking than mine, which is a 100% stock production guitar. What's that got to do with a jam with Marty? Well, I had gotten in the habit of taking the T60 and an amp with me to shows, and in spite of the shift from Lovehammers to L.A. Guns kept up with this, and as some know I have occasionally played some stuff for our friends in a hotel room or wherever (Hammercruise was a blast and I really had a nice set of songs planned of which I only got to do about 3 at the pre-show party but that's yet another story). Anyhow, in the middle of all that chasing around with Billy I acquired my Ovation acoustic/electric, and as it became more obvious that the T60 thing wasn't going to happen I started taking the Ovation. I can play it electric or straight acoustic so in terms of being able to sit and play for somebody it is a lot more flexible. In fact, I think I did all the Hammercruise songs on the Ovation although the T60 was there for me to cover "Creep" for the really hammering distortion and sustain needed. ("hammering"? bad pun.....) Yes, Mr. Verbose here needs to get back to the point. A video cropped up someplace of Marty playing at one of Jordis' shows, and while it was hard to tell precisely *which* Ovation it was it sure looked familiar (OK, if you want to see mine go over to my artist MySpace, duanemantick, and look in my pics under guitars) in general. As I said before I don't like to publically post private messages so I'll just say that in response to a question it came back around that the guitar Marty was playing is said to belong to Jordis' brother. Well, something prior to the Chilicothe show was screaming at me to take the Ovation along, which I did. Due to delays in travel I really didn't have time to even get everything out of the car when checking in to our hotel and that same little voice was screaming at me to just leave it in the car. And, after the show there was a group of young guys who had brought in a guitar for Marty to sign and I think maybe the rest of L.A. Guns if it could be arranged (didn't see if they did or not). The little voice started screaming at me to go out to the car and get the Ovation to show it to Marty and see if it was more or less the same thing he played in that video (when you're a guitar geek you think of things THAT way........OK, call me a "gearhead" if you like........it might be a compliment !! ). So I did this, and BBE was talking to Marty and mentioned it to him. I had set myself down to make sure it was in tune, figuring if Marty wanted to pick on it a bit, it just wouldn't do to have it be out of tune. So Marty walks over and he's being friendly and polite and so on and he just springs it on me. "Play something for me." Now what the heck do I do? I don't have a band (yet) and I'm not quite ready to be gigging out so I don't have a lot of stuff memorized (yet) and so THIS caught me pretty much off guard. Think fast dude, here's a rare opportunity and you don't want to blow it if you can possibly avoid it.......... "Sleeper" is one of my favorite LH songs and while I don't have all of Billy's moves I have a tolerable "fake" and at that moment it happened to come into my head, so I started playing. Pure acoustic and with the sound of the bar's PA still playing some music, getting it *heard* was not so easy but Marty picked up on it fairly quickly (OR, I was hacking it sufficiently that it took him a moment ) and started singing.........and I was singing......and it was a very, VERY cool moment in time. Pictures *do* exist........ I think it's about time to get them suckers posted. Hello, BBE? I wish to high heaven someone had had a camcorder there at the time but really, the way it played out was just grand. Thanks BIG TIME to Marty for this moment !!!!! No matter where else I go or what else I do musically, it was a wonderful intimate little jam that I think I will never forget. HH

[I wish to high heaven someone had had a camcorder there at the time but really, the way it played out was just grand. Thanks BIG TIME to Marty for this moment !!!!! No matter where else I go or what else I do musically, it was a wonderful intimate little jam that I think I will never forget. HH I was back by the bar and when I realized that Marty was singing "Sleeper" with you, I was tempted to walk over and listen....However, I realized what a special, private "Marty moment" you were having so I stayed away. I am SOOO glad no one intruded!!! It was a great moment to observe, Marty sitting cross legged on the coffee table in front of you, singing quietly to your accompaniment. I remember some LOUD hard rock song was blaring from the club's speakers, drowning Marty's soft vocal, so the contrast was very cool. I was thinking to myself, "gee, why isn't Nancy shooting video of this?" She sat there nearly frozen in her gaze at you and Marty! I had thought about walking over and videoing it with my little point-and-shoot Canon, but again, decided it would be an intrusion and I didn't want your special moment ruined. HH, I think the best part was the stunned look on your face when, afterwards, you and Nancy came over to us and told us how happy you were. You were nearly glowing with joy, almost in shock really...At that moment, I shared your happiness because I knew how much it meant to you and was glad I was there to witness it!!! Thanks for posting your story. YAK PS: And thanks for letting me get in front of you to have a better view of Marty on stage during the Chillicothe show!
