well, all i can say now is - when matt announced he was singing duran duran, from the looks on the band's faces...he just should have farted instead. Agreed! It's a bad sign when you start to explain your song with "This sounds bad but..." and I love Duran Duran! Not exactly a rock classic. To bad, I liked Matt he reminded me of an Osmond, maybe Jimmy. Poor Chris is trying, bless his heart. And the other guy, whose name I just can't seem to remember, is my guess for next to go.

I was very sad to see Matt go. He did make poor song choices, but he sure sounded good to me. There was something incredibly interesting about him.... I thought Chris was terrible AGAIN and should have been the first to go.

Yes, afranjes. The band (or the producers) picked the songs! The performers are stuck with one of their choices. I am reserving my early opinions until I hear at least one more song by each. However, I will say this: I PREDICT A GIRL ROCKER WILL END UP FRONTING SUPERNOVA! Agreed chitowngirl, I think we'll have a rockchick this year too. I really liked the chick with the pink hair...Dilana? Commanding, great voice. I felt the same way Penny, about Lithium being Marty's song, but forgot about it as soon as she opened her mouth. I should reserve judgement as well ( I may soon be choking on my words), but I really think she has the voice and the balls to front the band. I have to say I loved Toby...Aussie Aussie Aussie...Oi Oi Oi. On our Road to Rockstar show (auditions) here in Aus...MiG said "A Canadian won to front an Aussie band, maybe this year and Aussie will win to front an international band" Whatever happens, I'm looking forward to the RS season and reading your posts over the next few months. Penny...I LOVE your avi, just love it!

I don't think talent wise, that Matt deserved to go first, but at the beginning of the show the contestants need to listen to the critiques carefully. Do you remember in RS INXS they told Wil to play to the whole crowd and not just the girls in front? Then in the elimination show he sings to the girls in front again and gets the boot. Same for Matt, Dave tells him to get "uglier" (I think that was the word he used) and Matt does Duran Duran. Oh well too bad for him because I actually thought he had a decent voice but not the right image for Supernova.
I think the women are the strongest singers right now, and I agree with Chitowngirl that it will be a female lead for the band. In this RS version I think the bad boy/girl image is very important in impressing the band. Dilana and Lukas are definitely giving off that vibe. There is enough talent in the group, but only a few stand out as suitable performers for Supernova right now.
Patrice has an amazing voice but she didn't come across as a strong personality like Storm and Dilana. She's only performed once though so I can't wait to see what's next. Josh and Jenny seemed pretty good as well but again, pretty sweet looking on stage and at this point can't see them fronting this band.
I really can't understand how Zayra made it into the contest. Not to be nasty, but there is nothing at all about her performances that I would want to pay to see. She just doesn't do it for me at all.
Does anyone know if the elimination round song selection is totally made by the contestants or do they have a list of songs to chose from? The Duran Duran choice makes me think it's up to the contestants. If that's the case, the House Band will have a lot of songs to rehearse.

I think Chris would have gotten the boot if Matt had listened to the band. Duran Duran? He sang better than Chris, but it's not the right style for Tommy Lee, as he mentioned before the song.
Why did Lukas do that? I didn't get the JD-vibe from it, but I didn't like the fact that he did that. He's my favorite guy singer, but I don't like his personality.
I liked Dilana, but I feel none of this season's rockers, other than maybe Storm, really "feel" the songs they sing. I disagree about Toby-he'd tried to make "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" sexy, and that's like trying to make Nirvana's "Polly" cheerful. It just doesn't work.

Agreed............go to her site and listen to her version of HMBOMT........nuff said............she doesn't impress me in the slightest...........at least not yet............ So far I'm dissapointed..........I don't feel the electricity I felt last year.........can't put my finger on it..........maybe the bar was set so high last year it's proving difficult for anyone to reach it this year........ Then again.......it is only the first week......... and I'm being way too critical??? I totally agree with this Stil. Last year, the first episode caught me immediately, Jordis, Marty...I was instantly intrigued. I don't think you are being too critical, but I'm sure you are gonna go ahead and watch hoping to see something that catches your attention...at least that is my plan anyways. Something is definitely lacking for me. I didn't dig Dilana's performance of Lithium. Sorry to the peeps that like her, and it's not that I don't like her, but I just fell in love w/ Marty's version and definitely prefer it. For this kind of band though, I thought it suited them. I just felt that her jumping around like a chicken with its head cut off was taking away from her singing and seemed to make her "performance" look forced. I thought Matt was trying to be the "I stick to my guns" type of guy when he pulled out the Duran Duran song. It's worked in the past on these types of shows, they stay true to who they are and people start to respect that. But it can also backfire, and obviously it did for him. Vocally he is way better than Chris, but that song was just a BIG mistake! And how come everytime I see Ryan Starr I think it's David Blaine? Weird.

Short Man Syndrome I disagree about Toby-he'd tried to make "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" sexy, and that's like trying to make Nirvana's "Polly" cheerful. It just doesn't work. Thank you. And trying too hard to be sexy is just not sexy. I really wanted Chris to be my TV angel this season... He is stinking up that stage but I haven't given up on him yet. He needs one of Dave's clinics soon.

I don’t think that there’s any way in the world that Matt could have changed the song he had chosen between his initial critique and the elimination night. They must have chosen the song and rehearsed with the house band long before. I bet all the contestants rehearse one “elimination song” per week with the band, and there's no changing it. He was stuck...and that pretty much showed on his face as soon as his name was announced as being in the bottom 3...poor guy. I liked him.

As further testament to the lack of spark this season... Dilana's mosh chicken dance was the best performance of the night. And did she have to perform it exactly the same as the night before? It seemed forced to me too, nlt... and a wee bit uncomfortable. Sincerely, Still Waiting For My Socks To Be Knocked Off Anytown, USA

Dilana's mosh chicken dance was the best performance of the night. I was thinking that it looked more like the electrocution of a scarecrow.

But its exact replication the second night left me cold. Too rehearsed. Sigh....I miss Marty. I like Toby. So there.

first off no offense to her fans but dilana scares me a bit and second i think matt tried hard to rock up the duran duran song kinda like what marty did to hmbomt but it worked for marty but didnt for matt .i think that booting off matt was big mistake he had a stronger voice than the other 2 did.

I think the praise Lukas got on the performance show went to his head. Ugh!!! Reminded me a little of JD but with a more smug sort of look on his face. You could tell he is totally thinking, "okay, let's hurry up and get to Sept. so we can get rid off all these poor, untalented wanna be singers and get me the job I deserve." Sorry, his performance really blew my socks off, but this totally turned me off.

I'm very disapointed with the show. I think they kicked the wrong guy off last night. At least he could hold a tune. The other two were horrible. It seems so staged and planned, or something this year.

Is anyone else having trouble accessing the Rockstar sight? I haven't been able to get on at all since the show aired. I missed the elimination show and I'd like check things out.

It seems so staged and planned, or something this year. well, i agree in that matt could sing, but there was no way the band were going to go with such a mellow guy. The thing that interested me more was the reality clip they showed in which dude from Toronto (lukas) acts like a butt and dude from Chicago (matt) takes the high road. Wow, talk about symmetry. Too bad for Lukas that he has ____'s attitude and competitiveness but noe of his good looks and humour!

Aw, man. Why did Lukas have to bust out with some JD behavior??? I can't help but still like him, though. I kinda like him but I keep thinking troll when i look at him.......... does anyone else.......I think it is his hair and his size. but he does sing good.

my daughter calls him a 5 head (bigger than a forehead). He is trollish, can sing. But I wouldn't want a poster of him on my wall!
