Another dissappointing week for me. It seemed that a lot of the performers did more yelling than singing and I found it to be distracting. I just felt that the timing was maybe off when the screamed, or they carried it on too long.
Granted I'm biased and partial to Marty's performance, but Take Me Out was a complete disaster! That is the performance that hooked, entranced, hypnotized and locked me into watching the show and of course...Marty! I liked Storm's vocals, but didn't like that song for her. I definitely think she will be around for awhile though and I'm looking forward to hearing more from here. I thought Phil sounded very whiney when he sang. Patrice had an okay performance, but her voice reminds me of Suzy at times and I find myself getting distracted by that. The only performance that didn't completely bore me, was Toby's. Which was surprising to me, especially since his chewing gum while singing really annoyed me. But I'm also a freak about people doing that when singing and/or giving speeches.
Still hoping for that extra umph or kick in the ass to get my attention and make me want to vote.

They seemed plagued by mediocre performances this year. The only ones that stood out for me were Lukas (I can't help it I really dig him), Dalani (though Marty's was better!), Toby (sweatheart) and probably right on the bordorline Ryan (though he kind of creeps me out and always sings like he's in pain). I expected more from Storm, Josh and Patrice. Hopefully I'll get it next week. The rest...from blah to downright painful. I wish they would stop singing so many of the same songs as last year...are there really so few songs to choose from??? I can't stop comparing the singers this year to last year...and boy are they not living up to the comparison (except for Toby!). I think that if Marty had of been in this year...he would have won.

Marty didn't do "Ring of Fire" on the show last year ... he did it on one of the radio interviews after the show was over. I liked Dilana's performance of it, though. But all the other performances of "Marty" songs only made me realize once again how great he really is!

well, i thought this was everyone's so-so week. Nobody really stepped it up. Some of my thoughts for what it's worth: Magni --better than I expected this week Ryan: trying too hard to be Bruce Springsteen. Not buying it. Patrice: looks like a suburban mom. I am not sure why the band is so high on this woman. Josh: Worst version of Arms ever. God I miss Marty. Dilana: If I only listened it was great. When I watched I was wondering why she was doing the 3 witches out of Macbeth. Double double toil and trouble... Jill: I knew I didn't want to hear this. Seeing it was even worse than I expected. Lukas: Can anyone understand him when he sings? I wish he could enunciate or something. Mostly I wish he looked a little better. I liked Jenny's Tainted Love and Storm's Surrender --both fun. Toby did well on Somebody Told Me. Zayra: there are no words. just groans.
hope everyone knocks it off with the weird costume thing. A very boradway kinda night, but no curtain calls from me, I am afraid.

OMG I forgot about Chris. I should say, I was trying to forget about Chris. That was bloody awful. Take Him Out, please.

I totally agree about Dilana's clothes. Right out of Rocky Horror. Or a Halloween costume shop.

So I just watched Marty's "With Arms Wide Open" ... (sigh) ... there's one other thing about all of his performances: his voice may not always be pitch perfect, but it is always strong and passionate, and he nails the emotion of every song. You can hear him perfectly above the house band. He never fades into the background, either visually or musically. Some of the performers tonight were totally drowned out, which is not a Good Thing.

I so totally agree with everyone about missing Marty. Marty was the most popular rocker last season. If someone does one of "his" songs, they had better bring it!
Dilana scares me too. She's too theatrical. It's not about smoke and mirrors; it's about music. :/
It's bad luck for the rockers that the songs from last season are in the mix this season.
My favorites tonight: Toby, Lukas, Patrice and Storm.
Worst tonight: Chris (aka Mr. I wanna be Marty Casey), Zanya (Ms. I'm so stupid I enter a rock show and have never listened to Motley Crue, Metallica, or Guns 'n' Roses), and Jenny (Ms. I counldn't rock if my life depended on it). JMO. :~)
Encore tomorrow: Toby

BTW, *if* Marty gets to perform on this season's RS, no one will ever be able to follow his performance. He will put them all to shame.
Paging Mr. Marty Casey...

I'm with ya on your bottom three ... Zayra's not knowing any of the musicians she is auditioning for is bad enough, but then implying that they are old men because she was in diapers when they were popular was pretty damned stupid. Send her home.

I'd first like to say: Klly, I was wrong. Toby isn't as stupid as he could be. He made me actually like the Killers. Kudos to him.
Is there something wrong when one of the best is wearing pink and leopard print? Geez...I thought Dana was good, considering.
Yeah, what was with Zayra? Umm, that is no way to impress your possible future bandmates.
Oh, and I can't believe Jill had the nerve to steal Courtney Love's eye makeup, lipstick, hair, and dress, then claim she didn't know what Love did with that song. Sheesh.
Lukas...yikes. I thought you were good. Psaw.
And whoever did Nirvana-I miss Jordis. That was horrid.
What a disappointing week.

OK first, in watching the reality show, which I wish I could have watched BEFORE the tapings...I liked Dilana better, Phil more, and Lukas more. Chris is just plain annoying. I was actually laughing at his mis-placed confidence. But the biggest joke was Zayra...she just bugs me to no end. And the fact that Paul from the house band was like "yep, you're all good!" so she'd leave the practice, was comical. They are not seeming to connect with the rockers like they did last year...and yeah, miss the clinic for sure. That would MAYBE help some of them. on to the show... it was worse than I remembered...sigh...as cjspas said, at least there won't be another band to follow [to take up our time!] hee hee Jill - I liked her live, & I think because I did really like that album by Hole, & I liked that song (probably the memories of good times camping, listening to it helped) but in seeing it again, she has a much better voice, and the outfit was way campy. One of my first observations was the costume-y vibe of this year. It's like some of them are trying to play a character for the song. Where's the cool style of last year!?!?!? What WAS good for Jill is that she's really the only person that COULD have sang this song. I am sooo glad she & Zayra switched. And, geez, the band/show staff DID pick this song for SOMEone to sing. Tommy Lee commented how Courtney was a friend but she couldn't really sing. LOL I just think voting wise it will go against her because no one really knows that song by Hole so they totally did not get it. Phil - I just think he's a total cutie. But I was almost laughing at his facial expressions & eye movements - it was as if he was trying to make the MCEF his own, PREF. (Phil Richie Eye F***) LOL Chris - he will go next -either before or after Zayra. I really really tried to like him...but he's just lame! His confidence is just so out of place. He's sooo stiff! EVEN if I wasn't comparing to Marty's break-out performance, he's just not good at all. A local bar cover band singer, maybe... Dayna- seriously. This girl has a good voice, but is sooo trying sooo hard to be a grown up rocker chick. "I Like Clay!" just silly. Dilana - again, I just think she looks old-ish. I did like the vulnerable side in the reality show, but when she starts & ends her performances with a Gene Simmons tongue wag...wtf. Yuck. & I just don't dig that performance. & the outfit... on tv looks ridiculous. Again, playing a character. I'm sure she's all hard core & stuff to have all those tats & piercings, but it just seems like an act. She's all tongue (STOP IT!)-waving & then she's crying when Matt left. Still tho, even her 3 pack a day voice will get her through past some of the other forgettables. Storm - OK I remembered thinking with her get-up, wtf, too. The ponytails - so she could represent being a kid with the Surrender song? Another good voice, but she's sooo theatrical like Dave said - have character, don't BE one. Popping her eyes out as if she's Ozzy & then acting kinda manly. Pretty girl - but I just think she's a myriad of too many acts/facets. I liked her better last week. Zayra - again, MUST GO NOW. She looks like Celine Dion in straight wig & talks like Salma Hayek. Oh & she also called Jason out with saying that "he said the marriage proposal was a joke!" duh. She's a catsuit queen. I just can't get her arguments out of my head. Like Gilby said, she is just CLUEless as to what they are looking for...I really have nooo idea how she ever made it to the show & like someone said, Chris Daughtry from AI didn't. Maybe they were trying to have a "Daphna Dawn" character on the show. At least Daphna could sing last year. Toby - yum yum yum. Although he sounded a little better live...but he's really in my top 2. & the ladies WERE going wild with him. He'd be a good addition to their partying player bus. lol Josh - HATED his outfit - another 'costume'. I gotta dress grunge if I'm singing a grunge (if that's what I should call Creed) song?? he just looked sloppy. He's much better looking & could have so much more style. I think they must have a different stylist this year. I haven't read up on the fashions. He reminds me of Christian Slater. He does have a really great voice, just don't think he's the one for Supernova. He should last til the last 5 or 6 tho. Jenny - I cannot place it but she looks like a blonde version of a tv actress...but I didn't really care for that version of Tainted Love. Funny, cuz that song was voted #1 one in my 6th grade slam book. (please tell me someone remembers slam books!!!) a very classic rock song... she has a good voice, but probably will be one of the next 3 or 4 to go. Magni - still don't like him, but his performance WAS better than last week. The guys liked that he did the glasses on/off thing. I think he looks like he's trying too hard. Patrice - with heart shaped box, I agree looks like a housewife playing dress up rockstar. I think she looks like Debbie Gibson. lol Also a little bit Suzi McN wannabe. But I do think she's one of the stronger female voices. The band likes her. Ryan - just waaay too casual. And what Diva said...I was thinking & saying that the whole show. He did sound a little better but I think he's still screwed for not singing in the beginning. He won't last. and lastly, Lukas - I just really like him the best so far! He listened to what the band wanted, he toned it down & showed a softer side & he killed it. That is my favorite Coldplay song. So Mig & Jordis got a shout-out from Dave, I forget what it was, but I yelled Marty! when he didn't say Marty. Something about missing the ummmph of their performances. For sure. This year does not even compare to Marty, Mig, Jordis, Ty, Deanna, even ___, honestly, IMO. Tommy & Jason kind of wrestled & almost fell on to the table at one point. There was soo much editing & it was noticable in tonight's show. Does anyone also notice no one seems to be singing along? No one in the audience up front seems to know any of the songs... LOL Geez..sorry if my review is too harsh, I'm just sharing my opinions. & I think everybody looks like somebody. LOL :(Hopefully the harsher ones change as the show goes on... & my bottom 3 are still Zayra, Zayra, & Zayra. lol seriously, Zayra, Chris, & Dayna/Magni. Toby will get the encore for sure. Lukas was a band fave, but Toby was by far the crowd fave.

kudos to jodie...yes. no new band to take up my time...eventhough as everyone knows I LOVE me some Lukas. I love his style, I love his stage presence, I love his cocky confidence...I love how he leans into his movements....I love his hip hop influences (how he carries himself)....so basically I like him. I posted my review of the live taping in that thread and said if the quote from Tommy lee about Lukas's performace after he sang Coldplay's "Don't Panic" didn't make the air I would tell it here...because it was priceless.... well after he sang...Tommy picks up the mike and says "lets get on a tour bus together" the crowd went crazy and I think it effected the other rockers...i think maybe that ia why they edited out of the show...it could definately influence votes. but wow, huh. Zayra HAS TO GO...how did she even get there? and "baby Marty-Dino" (Chris) is uncomfortable to watch..he better step it up. Phil...I just want to take a stick and shove it down the back of his shirt...he looks way to "loungy"and I don't care what he sounds like I just can't stand to watch him destroy the stage. Jill bugs me and I am not trying to compare, but this crew just isn't as impressive as last season's...but i guess I need to give it time...let them progress. I think....Phil/ZAYRA and either Jill or Chris will be in the bottom 3. sorry guys.

omg, you guys are too funny. Jodie you MUST get the mc.org bracelet to Dave. The idea of putting a stick in Phil's pants is perfect! and thanks for sharing TLee's comments to Lukas and for not posting them til after the show, Kim! I posted in the aussie thread that Zayra reminded me of Celine Dion in Pat Benetar's clothes with young Linda Rondstadt's looks. So glad someone else caught the Dion thing. eewwwww. teeheee. Good news -- gonna save a LOT of money not chasing another new singer. Bad News: still spending it all on Hammers!

IMHO, the women this year are a HUGE disappointment!
I don't know all the names yet, but I'm digging the Australian guy, Lukas, and the guy from Iceland. The chick that did Lithium and Ring of Fire annoys me almost as much as Zayra.

Toby was the only one who really made me think the show could be redeemed. I liked Phil's song but I couldn't look at him. Jill was channeling Cortney Love doing Madonna's "Like a Virgin", ghastly! I did not like Dilana's "Ring of Fire" at all. And the Vampira goth outfit made me laugh, and I like the goth look, maybe just on guys. It really pissed me off when she started jumping around after her song like she knew she killed it. I wanted someone to slam her but SN liked it! It has been bugging me that she reminds me of someone and I figured it out last night. She sounds just like Jose Warden from the 80" group Vicious Pink, an obscure reference but I like them. Jenny looks like Daryl Hannah to me and I think she's just okay. I loved that Dave told her to go eat a sandwich! Poor Chris, he looked like a transvestite, way to much makeup. I missed Marty's British version of "Take Me Out." The others were not worth mentioning. Zayra should go next for being an idiot. If you want the gig don't insult the boss. I love that the camera people have perfected the art of zoning in on the WTF faces of the rockers and contestants when someone sucks. This show needs a star or there will be no Rockstar 3.

Go Jodie Go!!! If you can track down a green tour bus through three California counties then you can get an MC.org bracelet on Dave. Here's my review: I found it more entertaining to look at the crowd to spot some of our board mates then it was to watch the contestants. Remember how last year people on boards used to bash Ty, Mig, Suzie, the girl from Chicago, etc. Gosh I miss them - even Wil. At least they all gave it their all last year. Marty Casey: it makes him look sooooooooo much better. He made it look so effortless that I thought you couldn't mess up any of these songs. Don't even try just send home Zyara already. Ryan: how can you mess up with a good voice Dilana: liked her better in rehearsal and the outfit made her look silly. Magni: why doesn't anyone like him? He's not bad. I give him more credit than he's getting. Chris: Your just not all that. Lukas: like him but I watched the entire show while on the treadmill and I had to pause the treadmill and turn the TV way up to hear his voice. Jenny: Don't like her. The 22 year old has more rock in her than this one does. Toby: Cute and can sing all the others: ditto what everyone else said. Supernova: I find it interesting that these guys come from heavy metal backrounds and they didn't like all the screaming instead of singing either. I'd love to hear more from them. The group is more entertaining than the contestants. Gilby Clarke: he keeps getting hotter. How come I never noticed him in GNR?
