just watched North Country starring Charlize Theron last night with the hubby. here is the plot...
A fictionalized account of the first major successful sexual harassment case in the United States -- Jenson vs. Eveleth Mines, where a woman who endured a range of abuse while working as a miner filed and won the landmark 1984 lawsuit.
It was pretty good but it was a drama so the hubby was not all that enthused about it.

okay, I'll throw in my two cents, even tho all the films playing now in HK are already on DVD in the US. Capote is best film I have seen this year -- absolutely beautifully done. Walk The Line is good, but I really did think of LH all the time and actually sang outloud when Ring of Fire was featured! It was Ray with white guys. Good Night and Good Luck also very good. It was actually refreshing to see a serious black and white film and I find the subject matter fascinating. Brokeback Mountain, well my husband walked out after 30 minuntes, but HK audiences love it cause it's directed by sort-of local hero Ang Lee. I thought it was very good, but really not sure why it's garnered as much praise as it has. Pride & Prejudice. The entire audience was comprised of fans of the BBC series who just dared somebody other than Colin Firth to play Mr. Darcy. Guess what, it's good. More realistic, less pretty than the TV series, but also sexier instead of romantic. Now go get some popcorn!

chk, when do you have time to see all these movies?!?!
I have seen Walk the Line which I absolutely loved! I did not think I would like the movie as much as I did since I am really not a fan of Johnny Cash. But I love Joaquim Phenoix and Reese Witherspoon and they made that movie what it is. I saw it before LH started singing it on tour so I was actually able to concentrate on the movie and not (for once) have Marty on the Brain.
Brokeback Mtn.... hhmmmmm..... I am not so sure what to think of that one. I liked it. I knew what it was about going into the theater but the way IT first happened just all of a sudden threw me for a loop. I was expecting more of a build up. A little romance please! But then we are talking about 2 men here. Honestly, if it were about a man and woman couple, i probably would have hated it.

Just adding a bit of low-brow value here: I'm planning to see Date Movie. I loved Scary Movie and it's sequels so I figure Date Movie must be equally hilarious.
Pride and Prejudice is one DVD I'd like to watch. Think the run is over in Singapore. As a fan of Jane Austen's work, I'm not sure how I'd feel about anyone other than Colin Firth for Darcy, but I'm willing to try something new.

Hey Gaia, I know EXACTLTY how you feel about Mr. Firth playing Darcy, but trust me, the film is good. Of course a lot of the P&P details are gone because it's not a miniseries, and KK is too pretty to be Elizabeth, but it's good nonetheless. I only saw it because friends of mine in the only-Firth-as-Darcy club recommended it!
Vicki, How do I see so many? Actually, I don't normally, but in HK the big movies all come out in the two weeks before the Academy Awards and only stay about a week or two. You have to move fast. I'ma bit of a film fan, so over the years I've learned to keep weekends free in late Feb/early March!

Just saw V for Vendetta over the weekend and I thought it was great! Liked the story, loved the acting - Natalie Portman, Hugo Weaving, Stephen Rea plus Rupert Graves - Where have you been? You've aged nicely, just very good. Definitely shades of 1984 to begin with but casting John Hurt? Bravo.
