I can't wait to see Pursuit of Happiness and the Queen. I have those next on my Netflix account. I have seen some movies in the last couple of days with my niece. They aren't brand new. THe movie "13" about the teens and drugs, and We watched "Alpha Dog" too, that was brutal. So glad I am away from all that crap now. So far from the new stuff ,including Babel, the Prestige and Illusionist have stuck out the most. Babel was okay but frustrating and reminded me of Crash. I also have Happy Feet on hold. I hear it was good. Oh yes And Night at the Museum was cute, I saw that with my nieces too. Great family film.

I just watched "The Queen" I was a little disappointed at how slow it was? It like Babel was a little over-hyped to me. I kept thinking, that this could have been a TV movie for Hallmark. Helen Mirren did an excellent job on her portrayl but it wasn't very flattering for the royal family. It was okay. I wouldn't buy it. Jilly

I watched "Pursuit of Happiness" finally and that was such a frustrating movie to watch. I mean how much crap can one person have to go thru? I was pacing I was getting so mad at his struggles and bad luck ..... and then voila..Happiness. Persistance pays off. I love this movie!!!!!!!!!!!

I finally broke down and joined Netflix. The first two movies shipped to me were "Get Over It" and "A Slipping-Down Life".
I wanted to see "Get Over It" because it incorporates parts of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream into the plot, but it was a major disappointment. There was far too much teen comedy gross out humor (including a dog that was always humping something), and sadly, the performance by Martin Short (who is one of my faves) was WAY TOO OVER THE TOP. If you want to see a Shakespearean based teen comedy I'd recommend "10 Things I Hate About You" instead...it's much better. I would rate "She's the Man" between the two mentioned above.
I wanted to see "A Slipping-Down Life" after buying the movie soundtrack, which features one of the film's stars, Guy Pearce (another of my faves). Guy plays a musician who goes by the name of Drumstrings Casey. The movie is based on a book of the same name by Anne Tyler, which I now want to read. As GE (she has seen it too) said in the soundtrack thread...there is a scene of "fangirl devotion" featuring Evie that will hook any Marty Casey fangirl...after that scene you just have to see how it plays out. I haven't put this movie back into the envelope yet. I may have to watch it again. It's quirky, but I like quirky little Indie movies sometimes. If Indie films are up your alley or if you've read the book - you might enjoy the picture. I recommend it.
Peace.

Today I watched "Ms Potter" starring Rene Zellwegger and Ewan "hotty" McGregor . It was very charming and sweet. I loved it, it was bittersweet but it was like a movie of yesteryear. I think I may buy this one.
Jilly and last week I watched Deja Vu with Denzel Washington also a good movie, just enough of a chick flick added to keep my attention, besides the obvious Denzel that is.

They showed that one at my church one Sunday night, Jilly, but I missed it. I don't remember why...but I did. I've heard good things about that film though. Okay, so the other day I got two more DVDs from Netflix. So far, I've only watched one of them: "Blood: The Last Vampire". I wanted to watch "Blood..." because it is a film prequel (so to speak) to one of the anime series I'm currently watching "Blood Plus". The film has the tonal quality of "Paranoia Agent" if any of you are familiar with that series...in other words there are a lot of shadows and dimly lit scenes. One major difference that jumped out at me about the character of Saya in the film vs. in the TV show is that her eyes are a very intense blue in the film, they are brown in the TV show. Minor, I know, but curious to me nonetheless. "Blood: The Last Vampire" is not for the faint of heart. Clocking in at around 48 minutes it is a fast roller-coaster ride as you follow Saya who is in the process of hunting down some hideous monsters that only she can kill. It isn't until close to the end of the film that you learn exactly who is "The Last Vampire"...although I should have figured that out sooner. Yet, this one is not the average sort of vampire, either. This is not for the squeamish. If you're looking for a fast-paced spooky, creepy film for Halloween...this would be perfect. There is even a Halloween Dance involved in the story. However, there is a lot of blood...Saya's weapon of choice is a sword. The only way she can kill the monsters is by making them lose a lot of blood...i.e. by cutting them in half or something like that. Next up...something much lighter: The Vicar of Dibley 10th Anniversary Specials

We rented The Pursuit of Happiness with Will Smith. Very good movie . I watched The Pursuit of Happiness on the plane ride home from Chicago. Not usually my type of move...but I loved it! Well worth watching. Recent movies I've seen with ratings out of 10 (given that I usually like real life, hard to watch movies like The Dead Girl, Candy, Reservoir Dogs...) Donnie Darko 10/10 - this film! Jake Gyllenhall rocks!!! Alpha Dogs 8/10 - Justin Timberlake surprisingly really good The Painted Veil 8/10 - Ed Norton brilliant as always and Naomi Watts gives a stellar performance as well (Loved her in 21 grams) The Good Girl 8/10 - I was very very suprised by liking this film....and Jennifer Anniston...but it really it true to life and the twist at the end...brilliant! Bad Santa 10/10 - rib and jaw aching laughs!! My kids made me watch it!!!!!

Yes, I saw The Painted Veil recently and loved it to. Somerset Maugham is an auther whose work I really like. Even though the movie veered in a few different directions than the book...the basic story theme was the same. I thought it was a beautiful film to watch and quite relevant.

We rented Premonition with Sandra Bullock. Kept me interested all the way through. It was very good, but sad in places.
Sandra Bullock is my favorite actress. Did anyone see The Lake House? It was Wonderful! Especially if you like Keanu Reeves. He's extra sexy in that one.

Just finished "Wild Hogs" with John Travolta, Tim Allen, Martin Lawrence and Bill Macy. It was alot of fun. It had a cameo with Peter Fonda and the bonus features/blooper real are cute too. I liked it alot. I so want a Harley now!!
Cindy I saw Painted Veil a few weeks back and it was sooo sad. I love Edward Norton! That movie ripped my heart out. Good flick for sure!!!
